Bring out the Boxing Gloves: Training Camp Notes 08.05.14
August 5, 2014Looking for a $1,395 Johnny Manziel jersey? You’re in luck.
August 5, 2014As if LeBron James couldn’t get lean enough. Brian Windhorst joined Grantland head honcho Bill Simmons to discuss all things NBA—and what’s an NBA conversation without discussing James and the Cavs?
Per Windhorst, James has had such a packed schedule this summer (trips to China and Brazil among others) that he’s 10 or 12 pounds lighter than he was when the Spurs officially bounced the Heat out of the NBA Finals this past July. He’s allegedly spent the offseason taking a page out of Ray Allen’s book, completely cut out complex carbohydrates. All of this leads into plenty of discussion surrounding James’ time in Miami, the whole reported fallout between James and Kyrie, and the impending (alleged) addition of Kevin Love to Cleveland.
Take a listen for yourself. If you’re one of those Cavs Only types, all you have to listen to is the first half hour or so (though I highly recommend the entire show). Enjoy.

You cut simple carbs, not complex carbs. The nomenclature isn’t necessarily intuitive.
When will the Cavaliers have a press conference? They have now signed three players and not one press conference. Odd no?
There is a bit of news in this podcast in terms of the Kevin Love deal; Brian Windhorst at the very end of the podcast (nearly the last sentence), said in response to Bill Simmons’ question of whether Windhorst would bet his life on the deal, he says that “LeBron James says it’s done. Take that for what it’s worth.”
What is it worth to Windhorst? He calls James the quasi owner of the Cavs and the most powerful person in the NBA (perhaps besides Adam Silver).
Thus, James is revealed as at least one source for Windhorst’s reporting on Love; Windhorst also speculates that he believes this was a deal made between the two owners and not the GMs (who were left to work out the particulars and the logistics).
If you listen all the way to the end, Windy says that LEBRON told him the Love deal is done. Wow.
So, LeBron is talking to BW again?
Beat me to it.
Who cares what Windy says these days? If he is as tight as he thinks he is with Lebron then why in the world would Lebron go to Lee Jenkins and SI for an exclusive Essay to announce his Return? I’m surprised Windy still has a job at ESPN after that and especially that they still call him their #1 NBA Insider (looking at you Greenberg).
Well, I don’t take Windhorst for a liar. So, take that for what it’s worth. I am just highlighting the news from the podcast – because to date, no one had reported that LeBron James had any knowledge of the Kevin Love deal being “done.”
Nor do I. Just noting the change as it had seemed pretty frosty between LRMR and BW since the end of the season.
Loved the part about the Heat giving up all of those draft picks in the Lebron/Bosh sign-and-trades in order to get them signed in time to have their party and then really missing those picks when it came time to replenish their roster. Talk about karma…
Shh people on this blog love him.
Also to add to this; Windhorst reported James had met with Coach Blatt…. then today LBJ tweets that report is false and he has only spoken to him by phone.
That is the first time I can recall LBJ directly disputing a Windhorst report
What he says is that they met in person briefly last week during the shooting of his movie, confirmed by Blatt in a very long piece in si.com today about Blatt – which is well worth the read. There was no mention by James of phone; what is apparently contradicted is a report of meeting with the rest of the front office.
You are 100% correct and I am 100% incorrect. I read LBJ’s tweet wrong, thanks for the clarification and can’t wait to check out the SI article
My apologies .
If Windbag comes to Cleveland he can be expected to be “run” out of town.
Good luck with that Windy
Maybe they wait till August 23rd and let LeFrontrunner throw a Not Seven Party.
