Everything you need to know about trading for Kevin Love: WFNY FAQs
July 18, 2014LeBron asks fans if he should wear No. 23 or 6?
July 18, 2014Welcome to last week! While it’s not the constant refreshing of LeBron James dot com, the news surrounding a potential acquisition of Minnesota power forward Kevin Love is reaching new levels. In response to Thursdays reports that had the Cavaliers being willing to include No. 1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins in a deal for the All-Star, multiple reports are now being filed in the contrary.
AP: Two people familiar with the situation say Cavaliers' position has remained unchanged and that no offer including Wiggins has been made
— Tom Withers (@twithersAP) July 18, 2014
The latest from Withers is noteworthy as the veteran AP scribe tends to only report concrete, multiple-sourced information, refuses to report on things coming from player representatives and has had direct lines of contact with team owner Dan Gilbert.
In an interview 850AM/WKNR, Withers told Tony Rizzo’s “The Really Big Show” that there have been multiple discussions between both teams, but Wiggins has not been mentioned as being available. (Withers also hinted that it may have been the Timberwolves who leaked this news in attempt to get Golden State to increase their offer.) Discussions are wildly different than negotiations and that could obviously change. For now, however, it appears that the teams are in a staring contest.
Wiggins, despite swirling rumors, tallied 21 points (3-5 FG, 15-20 FT), five rebounds and a block in Thursday night’s loss to the Houston Rockets in the Las Vegas Summer League

Good.
Just saying it was “a block” really doesn’t do it justice.
Thanks for you and Craig doing the full reporting. Meanwhile, ESPN has 3 stories on their main page covering Wiggins in the discussions and NONE of the articles mention that the report might not be true.
As I noted in the other thread, it puts Minny in a tough spot with their fans. Unless, of course, Flip wanted to keep Love all along (and just hope that everything comes together this season and Love changes his mind). Seems a risky move, but sometimes you have to take such risks.
Gossiping, tweeting, rumor mongering I mean “reporting” at it’s best!
What Flip Saunders is hearing: 1) Cavs ready to throw in Wiggins; 2) Cavs would rather not add Wiggins; 3) Cavs will only throw in Wiggins if ‘Wolves insist.
Now, no matter which version he believes, why would he not insist on the deal being contingent upon Wiggins? This is why it’s best when an organization completely zips up or forcefully and loudly debunks all crap floating around.
I fully expect ESPN to announce Wiggins has been traded, any minute now.
They don’t want to get scooped by SI, again… đ
Wiggins is good, but will he ever be “Lebron” good – maybe not for years or ever. Even when Lebron came directly from high school to the Cavs, he looked born to do it even then. So if Wiggins seals the deal, fine. But here is where I would keep it real w/ the T-wolves – Wiggins, Varejoa and Tristan, but STOP giving up #1 picks for upcoming drafts!!! Give them these guys w/ some future 2nd rounders and tell ’em to keep the change!

Keep the change, ya filthy animal.
Wolves ARE filthy animals.
they just announced that Wiggins “might be” traded. they’re so awesome.

He took 20 FTs in a 40-minute game?! That’s impressive…
The interview with David Griffin after the draft was hilarious.
I remember he talked about how wrong the rumors were surrounding the draft and what was offered.
Every potential acquisition makes me think of that interview.
Ha haaaaa, Al is The Man. That he hasn’t won a Pulitzer or a Nobel yet is shameful.
summerleague special (refs give fouls away like Halloween candy)
the probability of the t-wolves leaking the ‘we’ll trade wiggins‘ rumor through bob finnan of the willoughby news-herald strikes me as remote.
I never thought I would ever say this but Browns training camp can’t start soon enough.
I just wonder why some people are willing to pay $100 for something now, when it will be available for $20 in the future…
Flip’s from the Northcoast (C-Heights) đ
are you in the Aniston or Jolie camp?
i did not consider this. there you go.
Because some teams won’t have the chance to get him if they don’t trade for him now. One of those teams is the cavs.
Plus paying “$100” for a piece that’s worth more is a pretty good deal still.. I can maybe understand the Cavs fans not wanting to give up wiggins(i guess..), but GSW not offering Klay baffles me.
Why won’t they get the chance?
I’m in the “let’s get actual sports going again so the media can stop creating their own trade scenarios in a slow news week” camp.
……so guess that means Aniston.
Lebron can be a free agent next year. If the Cavs don’t get KLove that is what he will do. Lebron doesn’t want a rebuild.
Minnesota HAS to trade Love. He’s not coming back.
A prospective buyer doesn’t have to pay top dollar.
After the Trade Deadline, Minnesota is stuck with nothing. Zilch.
I don’t understand why people don’t get this.
Minnesota has no leverage. Playing several teams against each other that all know Love is leaving is minimal leverage at best.
Yeah, exactly. You are missing the whole point. Without Wiggins the Cavs have a terrible offer. You think Lebron would want to see KLove playing in Chicago? Golden State? He’s going somewhere. Lebron would have a terrible supporting cast the next two years without KLove. Cleveland would lose Lebron again and it would be all their fault. It’s an insane risk to not trade for KLove.
Terrible? I think you’re overvaluing Love and undervaluing Wiggins, just a tad.
Chicago? When they raise their heads, I’ll worry about them. You’re creating a bidding war that doesn’t currently exist.
I’d love to play poker with some of you guys…
Lebron wants KLove. If Cleveland blows this Lebron will leave. Cleveland hasn’t signed Wiggins. He will be traded. They are fighting about a draft pick now. Cleveland would be idiots to risk not getting Love. KLove is better than Kyrie. This trade gives them three superstars in their prime. Don’t over think it.
Who are we bidding against right now that requires us to just give up Wiggins?
Nobody. No other offers from other teams are on the table.
If the time comes when we have to, maybe we will.
But, right now Love is an expiring asset. Every NBA GM knows this.
With some patience we may be able to have 4 stars in their prime.
LeBron is smart. He knows the business. He’ll certainly recognize that Griffin isn’t going to panic and bid against himself.
Without Wiggins every offer is better than what Cleveland could offer. There is no way Cleveland gets him. Would be a massive championship costing mistake. You really think Lebron has patience for that? With Love all the pressure is on Lebron. Without Love all the pressure is on Wiggins. If Wiggins isn’t ready day 1 and the Cavs don’t win a championship Lebron will be gone. He didn’t sign on to teach rookies how to play. He wants Kevin Love.
No, that is neither. Hoyer wins and media will count down until JFF. JFF wins and that’ll start the circus.
We’ll have to disagree on that.
Everything you said is contrary to his letter.
Hahahahahahahahahaha Do you think he was even in the room when that was written?
With KLove you have a chance of winning a championship next year. Wiggins is a big question mark. It’s lunacy to risk it.
Cleveland has to do whatever it takes to get Love and if they fail are heading for disaster. Lebron has given Cle just 2 years to right the ship. Love is worth many times most players, yes even an 18 yr old wunderkind. He is the best PF in the game right now and just about to not be 25 years old. That means Prime folks. He just needs to win it all and will probably end up in HOF. The ways in which this guy helps a team out cant really have a number to it. For instance, the guy can grab a toughly contested rebound due to perfect arm technique that pull the other guy down as love goes up. Ok now that he is up he grabs the ball and looks down the court..the offside guy should be sprinting down and love can whip it full court before even landing from the rebound. It is effing incredible to watch. He won 3 pt competition a few years ago and is better now. He get calls and goes to the line all game. He has to be accounted for wherever he is on the floor. Cleveland will have three superstars on their roster with Love being #2.
To get him and and lock him up. You want to wait until next summer to try to sign him? That leaves one year w/Lebron. Seriously getting a guy of Love
s caliber is no small feat. He is one of the best all around players in the game.
I want a darned real truthful report!!!! Nobody know anything…archhh..most of the free agents have been signed…get on with it. Love is worth actually more than Carnelo.
Turn off the ESPN.
It matters not. He put his name on it. He’s responsible for it.
Sigh…
Bode?
Cavs fans don’t know basketball. You already blew it with Lebron once. Why would you risk it again?
the one thing i’ll add in this thread is that it’s risking 1 year of Love for Wiggins career. Love could up and leave next summer.
you done got drug into it. happens to me too. don’t feel bad, just got to know when to hold e’m, when to fold ’em, and, in this case, when it’s time to walk away đ
Those Heat “fans” sure are a pesky lot.
Honestly, I thought they were just a myth.
I’ll be sure and be more careful where I step, in the future.
***scrapes off shoe***
Ewwwww…
There is now way the Cavs make the trade if he doesn’t sign an extension. Don’t be stupid.
that is the point here. Love has millions of $s in reasons to not sign an extension until next summer (or just sign a 1 year to reap the new CBA rules the next summer).
trading for Love does not mean he will sign an extension, sadly.
He would sign it before the trade is official. That’s been the proposal since day 1.
There is no guarantee and love has never indicated he would do so.
A bit late now… but I’ll answer. Now we know the trade will go through, but basically because the CAVS wouldn’t have had the cap room to sign him next offseason. They would have had to get rid of Varajeo and his birds right and one of Thompson/Waiters. I think the cavs had to also do something else along with that. Cavs made a smart decision by doing this trade.
I’d also like to know what you think on the trade. As a Minnesota fan I hate losing KLove, but am excited about the twolves future. I liked this trade more than any other trade offer I’ve seen except for the bulls (Gibson, Mirotic, Mcd) trade that may or may not have been offerend.
