The space between: How far is the gap between Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel
June 11, 2014Philadelphia 76ers inquire about Cavs’ No. 1 pick
June 11, 2014The stones keep on turning. One month in and the Cleveland Cavaliers are ensuring that all of their resources are spent in hopes of not just finding a head coach, but the head coach. Alas, while Alvin Gentry and Tyronn Lue are staring at second interviews, the Wine and Gold have reportedly contacted Nate McMillan to gauge his interest on the job.
The long-time Supersonics and Trailblazers head coach has most recently spent time as an assistant for the Indiana Pacers. While it wouldn’t surprise anyone in the league if the former NBA guard landed another head coaching job, it would appear unlikely that he would find his way to Cleveland given the process that has unfolded over the course of the last several weeks. To this point, no reported interviews have been scheduled.
Gentry will have a second interview with the Cavaliers about their vacant head coaching position on Friday. The former Pistons, Clippers and Suns head coach will meet with owner Dan Gilbert, another sign that the Cavs are serious about his candidacy. He is reportedly facing competition in the way of Tyronn Lue and former Cavalier star Mark Price.

Careful, Dan, that buffet plate be so loaded everything might fall to the floor.
Seeing as you need to pull this trigger shortly, I’d sure feel better if there were signs you knew what you were looking for.
I wouldn’t mind McMillan if he is the reason we pass on Gentry and Del Negro, but
when are we going to interview Robert Pack?
he’s waiting for one of the daughters of these coaches to tweet out something about it being cool.
I would think that after his tweet about the Cavs needing to play defense, during the Byron Scott years, that Dan would now be entrenched in the belief that any coach that he beings in, must have a very effective defensive system. Hopefully this is true as this would probably remove Gentry out of contention for head coach.
the Gentry initial and continual rumors remind me of the Michael Lombardi rumors with Banner. they seem to not hold merit because even fans can see the weak resume and yet they are persistent and there is a relationship with the man making the hire (Griffin). I don’t see a Gentry hire working out any better than that ill-fated Lombardi hire either.
At this point, they’re just throwing darts.
