Cavaliers interested in talking to Mark Price again, per report

June 16, 2014The Cavaliers are doing their due diligence on draft picks and coaches all at the same time. Among snippets about Mark Price and David Blatt, the Cavaliers are also scheduling workouts with the presumptive top picks in the draft. They’ve had Joel Embiid already and now have another Kansas Jayhawk, Andrew Wiggins, scheduled for Wednesday. Jabari Parker is reportedly coming in on Friday.
Who will it be? Nobody knows. Do the Cavaliers even know yet? Who knows that either?
WFNY knows a good amount because we’ve done lots of research. The Cavaliers workout-ee on Friday, Jabari Parker has been studied here on these pages by Kirk with tons of GIF-y goodness.
For me, Parker is most intriguing as a stretch four option that has a vast arsenal on the offensive end. With an ability to get to the line, shoot the three, get to the rack, hit from mid-range, and hit the glass, it’s easy to see why some compare him to Carmelo Anthony. I’m not willing to go that far just yet, but there are similarities in style, defensive ability (or lack thereof), and scoring potential.
Of course our own Jacob already looked at the free agent wings available and seemed to degrade the prospects of a plug-and-play NBA wing straight out of college.
Yes, Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker, both with their known differentiation points, could be the Cavs’ long-term answer at this general gaping hole. There’s no knowing what the team’s plan might be or how they plan to utilize the unique opportunity of again having the top pick. Wiggins is more of a fit for a “wing” position; Parker might be more of a traditional forward.
All I’ll say to compare the youngsters and the veterans is this: Very rarely do 18- or 19-year-olds contribute at even an average level in the NBA. Again, average is very valuable. But if you look at the list of sub-20-year-old player-seasons in league history, you see a whole lot of underwhelming struggles.
So, we’ll see. There are a lot of moving pieces. One thing we know for sure is that the Cavaliers are, in fact, going to work out Parker and Wiggins.

Embiid 1st, Wiggins 2nd, Parker 3rd — that matches my draft board
