Kyrie Irving shares a pic of his 2014 Hyperdunk PEs
June 10, 2014The White Bronco chase and evaluating the front seven: While We’re Waiting
June 11, 2014Day one of mini-camp is in the books. Here is a gathering of news and notes from beat reporters at today’s practice. This is a collection from @FredGreethamOBR, @NateUlrichABJ, @ScottPetrak, @RuiterWrongFAN and @sdoerschukREP.
— WR Anthony Armstrong is 5-foot-10 and weighs 185 pounds. He is a four year veteran spending time with the Dolphins, Redskins, Cowboys and Jaguars, mostly on practice squads. He hasn’t been in an actual NFL game since 2012. But for some reason the diminutive wide out has been making plays during workouts. Today he caught another long pass for a touchdown, this time a 45-yarder from Manziel beating Buster Skrine. He beat Haden for a deep score in OTAs.
— OL Joel Bitonio was not out at practice after suffering an injury last week believed to be a high ankle sprain. OL Chris Faulk was also not at practice.
— OL Jason Pinkston walked to the trainer’s room holding his left hand. With Bitonio and Pinkston out of practice, Garrett Gilkey took reps with the first team at guard with Greco on the other side.
— Speaking of the offensive line, Joe Thomas was back practicing after sitting out some of OTAs.
— QB Brian Hoyer was limited in his participation just as he was during OTAs. The coaching staff and trainers are being cautious with him as he continues to recover from his ACL surgery that ended his season in 2013.
— QB Johnny Manziel took the majority of the reps with the first unit in 11-on-11 drills.
— WR Nate Burleson participated today with a soft cast replacing the hard one he had during OTAs. Color me a little surprised by this. Seems odd to have a veteran out there who just got a hard cast off following surgery catching passes during mini-camp. I may be reading too much into it, but I would guess either Burleson is nervous about making the team, or the coaching staff really wanted a veteran like Burleson out there leading the group through drills.
— WR Miles Austin was dressed and went through individual drills, but did not participate in group drills.
— RB Edwin Baker, RB Dion Lewis, WR Charles Johnson, WR Travis Benjamin, WR Willie Snead, DL Billy Winn, LB Brandon Magee, LB Tank Carder and RB Jourdan Brooks were all on the bikes instead of participating in drills.
— RB Isaiah Crowell participated fully for the first time.
The team announced that Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel will not be made available to the media until training camp. One thing I will give Manziel credit for in his brief time with the Browns is diffusing these questions about his off the field activities. Not sure it would hurt to let him speak and handle these questions.

How will we know if Johnny will choose the Browns or Padres if the media cannot ask the question?
“One thing I will give Manziel credit for in his brief time with the Browns is diffusing these questions about his off the field activities. Not sure it would hurt to let him speak and handle these questions.”
It’s a good thought, but as adept as Johnny is at fielding the questions, there is no power on Earth that can diffuse the perpetual questions propounded by the media circus. Field all you may with the Churchwellian-est of aplomb, but their mindless, frenzied obsession will never end.
Churchwellian … Churchillian? ok, here’s a suggestion, to one of the bubbleheaded media invaders: “I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.”
Or forget the playbook Johnny, use your own words. Nothing you haven’t had to say before.
“OL Joel Bitonio was not out at practice after suffering an injury last week believed to be a high ankle sprain.” Uh-oh.
Thanks. Was going Churchill but somehow brain went Orwellian.
