May 28, 2014Johnny Manziel surprised Vegas weekend is a story
May 28, 2014The United States won their game last night against Azerbaijan 2-0 as they get warmed up for the World Cup. The results don’t matter except as confidence-building for the squad who hopes to do well in Brazil this summer. The U.S. failed to capitalize on some big chances, but in the end, they got two goals in the second half from subs Mix Diskerud and Aron Johannsson.

Other notable takeaways from this game…
Clint Dempsey didn’t play for precautionary reasons due to a sore groin. Hopefully this is nothing of note.
While he didn’t have any goals in the box score, Jozy Altidore was disruptive on offense.
Next up the U.S. takes on Turkey in New Jersey at 2 P.M. on Sunday June 1. The game will be on ESPN2.

Somewhere, Ghana is smiling…
As much as i dont like him, Wondo still gets around the ball around the goal.he should net a few in the cup
Have to say, I try to keep somewhat up to date on world news, but I had no idea of where Azerbaijan was other than the name sounded Middle Eastern. And yeah, there it is on the Caspian Sea nestled between Iran, Georgia and Armenia.
I will bet they have some absolutely fantastic beaches.
The result was fine, but the play on the field was pretty disappointing. Michael Bradley played as poorly as I’ve ever seen him play for the USMNT… couldn’t connect on any passes going forward and the shot he took was nowhere near the goal. And frankly, I’ve had about enough of Jermaine Jones. You just can’t trust him to make smart decisions with the ball. There were a couple of awful giveaways that never amounted to anything for Azerbaijan because, well, they stink. I’d rather have Beckerman in there. He’s disruptive defensively and you can count on him to make the smart play even if he’s not as good as Jones on Jones’ best day. Zusi played great and could have a breakout World Cup. I don’t get the point of Bedoya… all I see is him running a lot without any results. Give me Brad Davis who can at least send in a quality cross and is a dangerous left-footed option on set pieces. I’m not sure what to make of Wondo… he is a clinical finisher and has a knack for picking up goals, which I love, but he’s pretty useless up until the shot on goal. Altidore has gotten much better at holding up the ball during his time at Sunderland. Hopefully he can break his scoring drought soon.
Mix and Johannsson are great subs… love them both in that role, they are just too quick for tired players to stop.
