Browns are equal-opportunity haters; team skips Clowney’s pro day
April 2, 2014Cavs vs Magic Behind the Box Score: Signs of a fun April?
April 2, 2014There’s just not enough time in the day. A few hours after we catch word that the Browns’ “Big 4” snubbed Jadaveon Clowney’s pro day, we hear from multiple reports that the team is simply busy conducting a private workout wwith Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles.
Bortles has become the sexy No. 1 pick in many mock drafts, meaning that he would not be available at No. 4 when Cleveland was officially on the clock. Holding the No. 26 pick as well, however, could allow the Browns to move up in the event they felt the need to secure a specific player—whether that player is the 6-foot-5-inch Bortles or not.
Keeping in line with their thoughts on not having to take a quarterback with the fourth-overall pick, the team recently worked out Fresno State’s Derek Carr and are expected to do their due dilligence on several other quarterbacks before the 2014 NFL Draft rolls around this May. Carr’s potential (along with others like LSU’s Zach Mettenberger) would makes sense in the event the Browns go another direction with their first first-round selection. Say, an offensive lineman?

Giving you an A for the alliteration, Scott Sargent. Nicely done
Private workout? They only can interview him Cleveland. He is not allowed to throw a football when visiting a team.
change “for” to “by” and we have a complete set
you are correct and it is confusing in the terminology used. he may not perform football activities, but may be subjected to whiteboard write-ups and verbal questions and they can go out to dinner, etc. with him. especially for a QB, that is going to be more important at this stage than anything else anyway.
my question is why singularize the word “become?” the term “Browns Brass,” to me, is singular, not plural. In England they use the former, here in America, the latter. I like when i hear an announcer say Liverpool ARE a bunch of crybabies. just sounds more better.
The workout was in Florida not Cleveland therefore they could have him work out and throw the ball.
No need for tears at the top of the table
I’m picturing a 60 yard-long dinner table. Ray Farmer at one end, yelling, “Hey Blake, can you pass me the salt? It’s in that football-shaped shaker in front of you. I’ll just be moving over here, pretty quickly, to get the, er, ah, soup – yeah, while it’s hot.”
I’m getting the sense that Bortles is our top QB choice if he’s available at four. I doubt we would trade up for him, and there are probably a few players we would take instead of him anyway. I really hope our backup plan after Bortles isn’t Carr, but that looks increasingly likely. The prospect of us trading up from 26 to get Carr scares me in exactly the same way that selecting Weeden seven rounds too soon did. There are at least five other QB’s I’d prefer, and I think the only one with superstar potential is Manziel (then again he also has super bust potential).
Love the headline, but sad we missed out on something like “Cleveland Coaches Convene Caucus to Consider Carr’s Character, Conditioning, and Callisthenics”
Not sad if we miss out on Carr himself, though.
How about “the Villa still suck” is that proper?
can we get this stupid draft over with already – probably the most over hyped & worst thing in sports.
