April 28, 2014Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has been in the news quite a bit over the past week after being removed from the Browns preseason broadcast team. On Monday, Kosar had his day in court from citations issued last September.
Kosar pleaded no contest to reckless operation in a construction zone today in Bedford court. In exchange for that plea, prosecutors agreed to drop the speed and alcohol related charges according to FOX News.
Kosar paid $1069 in fines and court costs and received a ten day suspended jail sentence.
Kosar released a statement through his attorneys-
“I am pleased with the court’s decision that reaffirms that alcohol was not involved in my traffic citation from September in any way. I sincerely apologize to my fellow Clevelanders for the guilty charge of reckless operation, resulting from speeding in a construction zone. In the future, I will strive to be more cautious and careful. I do not fault law enforcement for making the original charges and mistaking my concussion related ailments for alcohol-induced impairments. I understand how slurred speech and physical limitations could be misinterpreted as intoxication. For the last 6 months, I have been advised by my legal counsel not to comment on this subject due to legal proceedings. However, it was disappointing that the report of the original charges were made national by ESPN within hours of the traffic stop. I would hope that those responsible for quickly leaking this sensitive and personally damaging information before all the facts were known would re-think their actions in the future.”

Yeeaaahhh, ’cause truth > page views.
Bernie #1!
well, to be fair, I think the truth helps page views. it’s just not right away.
(1) Report salacious news without regard to where the source is or how accurate the information might be.
(2) Continue hammering on it until proven wrong or page clicks stop
(3) Once information proven wrong, then blast other media outlets for reporting such news without regard to validity of information to generate more page clicks.

What every lawyer wants: a client that doesn’t take advice.
Great. Now, in addition to everything else, Bernie’s a bad client.
“I am pleased with the court’s decision that reaffirms that alcohol was not involved in my traffic citation from September in any way.
Yeaaaaahhh…. Speaking from experience, just because the alcohol charge was removed doesn’t mean it wasn’t involved.
In fact “wreckless operation” is pretty much the standard if alcohol is involved but the police have no breathalyzer nor admission to drinking in the arrest.
I obviously wasn’t with Bernie that night, I wasn’t the arresting officer, nor in the cell later on after his booking….pure speculation.
? His lawyer wanted him to wait until it was complete which it now is, right?
I think his lawyer wants him to be quiet. Period. Probably in his best interest not to impeach his future credibility.
ok, fair enough.
