Numbers Don’t Lie: Cavs took huge steps defensively in 2013-14
April 18, 2014Bourn Identity: What’s going on with the Indians center fielder?
April 19, 2014You never really know where this kind of info comes from, or even what it means when it’s reported that a team has “interest” in a player. That being said, Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) indicates that the Browns are among the teams that are interested in Boston College running back Andre Williams.
The punishing Doak Walker Award winner set the Boston College single-season record with 2,177 rushing yards last season. He was a consensus All-American and rushed for 18 touchdowns last season…
Wiliams has drawn second-round to third-round grades.
It’s even harder to try and project out past the first part of the first round of the draft if you can even successfully do that. It’s especially difficult in a year where there’s seemingly no clear cut number one pick for the Texans. So, to go on down and look at a prospect who is vaguely projected between the second and third rounds is tough.
Still, I am fully interested and in favor of all this talk about the Browns and their renewed commitment to the running game. It wasn’t necessarily their fault a year ago when Trent Richardson faltered out of the gate and Dion Lewis got hurt before the season even started. Still, it’s nice to know that a year after suffering through the dying breaths of Willis McGahee that the Cleveland Browns might just commit to the running game again.
That commitment will include former Bengals fullback Chris Pressley, Ben Tate, and hopefully a prospect from the draft.

Andre Williams vs. North Carolina State: (for reference)

please NO RBs in first 3 rounds
i could go for tre mason but jerick mckinnon in the 4th would be optimal.
I like Williams.
AFC North type of runner.
Big and fast. One cut and gooooo…
I like DeAndre Douglas out of Southeastern Oklahoma College of Dental Sciences. His 243 yd/3 TD game against the Fighting Cuspids was a thing to behold.
3rd round sleeper. You heard it here first folks.
That was an incredible game but he got shut down when he played The Univeristy of Southern North Dakota School of Applied Orthodontistry. To be fair, every body who played the Cavity Creeps got shut down last year. Their middle linebacker Ian Cisor was a beast among beasts.
Maybe in the 3rd round since we have 2 picks. Hyde, Mason, or Williams would be solid picks to beef up the backfield.
I liked this kid and he’s one of the reasons along with so many other possibilities at RB in this draft that I don’t see Carlos Hyde being drafted. That and Ben Tate was signed as a free agent. But I think you will most assuredly see another RB added via the draft.
I don’t see Hyde or Mason lasting past round two and Hyde may not even last past round one let alone round three.
Thanks for the YouTube video. Here is what I saw:
– Williams looks like a one cut type of back. He flows to where he thinks the hole is going to be and is decisive;
– there were some huge holes opened up by pulling guards and tackles, and to Williams’ credit, he didn’t miss them or dance around;
– fights for extra yards;
– 3 fumbles. YIKES!;
– A complete whiff on the one pass protection block shown that resulted in a sack.
At the combine Mayock was wondering if Williams could catch the ball since he had zero receptions this season. He did not look good at all, he was “Roberto Duran-like” with his hands of stone. I remember Mayock chuckling while saying something like “I guess that answers that question”.
Late round RB’s to take a flyer on instead of Williams would be Jerrick McKinnon or Terrance West from Towson State.
I still have nightmares about the last “consensus All-American” running back we took from Boston College.
a fumble machine
I saw a few Williams games. He seemed to me to be one of RBs who, at first glance, seem just good enough to play in the NFL, but did enough awesome things in college to make you think there might be something else hidden.
I dont know if I like him any higher than mid-late 3rd round though. (Prepares to eat words b/c he is not a draftnik.)
