Dion Waiters set to return from knee injury
March 4, 2014Cavs vs Spurs Behind the Box Score: What defense?
March 4, 2014Cleveland Browns President Alec Scheiner was on 92.3 The Fan Tuesday afternoon, and answered questions regarding the Browns uniforms in wake of Tampa Bay’s unveiling yesterday.
“We’ll have cutting edge uniforms that link back to our history,” Scheiner said. “I don’t want to speak about the Bucs (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) uniforms, but I’m really excited about our direction.”
The Browns have been working in partnership with Nike to design the new look for the team. Nike became the league’s official uniform supplier for the 2012 season. The first team that they gave a complete redesign to was the Seattle Seahawks. The Dolphins underwent a uniform and logo overhaul last season.
Public opinion on the uniforms for both Seattle and Tampa Bay was quite mixed. Scheiner doesn’t think that will be an issue with Cleveland’s new look.
“I’d be very surprised if our fans didn’t love our new look uniforms,” Scheiner added. “I think we’re headed down a really cool path.”
Scheiner said that he expects the uniforms to be unveiled next year before the draft.
In other news, Joe Banner is already out of Berea. That is a quicker transition period than the Browns and specifically Jimmy Haslam said would take place back in February.
The entire interview can be heard on 92.3 The Fan’s website.

I say the Seahawks have better overall uniforms, but the Bucs’ overlay looks better. That font Tampa used though is HORRIBLE! Picture this for the Browns “new” unis: ORANGE Pants (match the helmet which should remain untouched). As for the tops: keep the current font, and comparing to the Bucs’ new look, replace the red with brown and the pewter with orange. That way the road tops won’t kill your eyes with a ton of white.
Considering that this is exactly the sort of talk you hear right before the Buckeyes unveil the latest Pro Combat abomination, I’m going to assume that these new unis will be terrible. Though it would require legitimate effort to end up worse than the Jags or what the Bucs just trotted out. And at least the Bengals will always be there to make every other team look better.
Scheiner’s a dork who doesn’t know what cool is. The Bucs new helmets look like safety gear for the retarded kid. No Cleveland fan is going to love this.
Mike Holmgren just told a Seattle radio station that he’s mocked up an all white look for us that he wants Nike to take a look at.
White pants, white jerseys, white shoes… white numbers with some brown outlines.
and black socks?
“I’d be very surprised if our fans didn’t love our new look uniforms,” Scheiner added. “I think we’re headed down a really cool path”
Was Scheimer thinking of following uniform design when he made that statement?

That looks awesome. Is there an “away” counterpart to this home jersey set?
white socks.
The new design idea came to him over a rack of ribs and pitcher of Mai Tais. Paid for by us…
I couldn’t find such picture on the net. Sorry 🙁
For reference, here’s an old Cleveland.com article about fan made Browns uniforms

I tried adding the white stripe down the leg, but it didn’t look good. But I think that’s what’s missing. The white stripe on the sleeves and down the leg.
you are no fun.
Also, I did this in a hurry, so be kind when ripping on it..lol
CUTTING EDGE???????
Oh man, we’re screwed.
We at the Browns want a uniform with attitude. It’s edgy, it’s “in your face.” You’ve heard the expression “let’s get busy”? Well, this is a uniform who gets “biz-zay!” Consistently and thoroughly.
So they’ll be proactive, huh?
Oh, God, yes. We’re talking about a totally outrageous paradigm.
just remember, no matter how bad you think it might be, it can always get worse

or if you prefer the chrome-style helmets:

Leave the damn uniforms alone, Nike has proven time after time that they have horrible design sense. The Bucs new uniforms are the worst.
$!
It looks like somebody is very bad at paintball or was involved in a tragic accident at a highlighter factory.
not necessarily tragic as he gained the superpower of making people want to gouge out their eyes.
Unfortunately, we’ve got a bunch of carpetbaggers who have been Browns fans for less than two years, and they don’t give a damn about people who have been Browns fans for frickin’ decades.
They’ve come in here and they’re gonna take our look and our cherished traditions and throw ’em in the garbage because they’re cooler than us. How dare Alec Schenier talk about “our” history? What do you mean by “our,” Kemo Sabe?
Exactly who the hell asked Jimmy Haslam to give OUR team stupid new “cutting edge” uniforms. This is shaping up to be the dysfunctional-est, debacle-est, Three Stoogiest move yet.
God, I hate marketing tools.
Chuck, Otto Graham just rolled over in his grave.
I’m ok with freshening up the uniforms a little. I think the all-whites look great.
Just DO NOT touch the helmet.
Although, pearl orange this this would rock…

PLEASE CHANGE THE DAMNED UNIFORMS
– Millennials
I am typically a bit of a traditionalist, but if they want to “tweak” the uni a little bit and incorporate some history into that I’m OK with it as long as they don’t go crazy. If we end up with some abomination like Tampa or Jacksonville I’m gonna be pissed. The only change to the helmet I could (maybe) get behind would be a player number on the side.
Can anyone name one pro or college football radical makeover in the last 10 years was better than what it replaced?
so glad we’re going fix these since they’re clearly broken (see jpg) (sarc).
mr. cleaveland has my proxy and auto like button on this; he speaks for me but let me add:
* form over substance.
* change for sake of change.
* planned obsolescence.
you know the problem with cutting edge? (aside from being a meaningless cliche.) it looks stupid when it’s no longer cutting edge. my qiana shirt in 1978 was cutting edge. ya dig? remember ten years ago when all you could find were four or five button suits? arent you glad you didnt buy one?
“… a really cool path.” you know what’s cool? classics are cool. understatement is cool. what’s not cool? pimping jersey to non cleveland fans for the sake national branding.
doesn’t sound like any browns fans i know were invited to their ‘focus groups.’ i guess we are 13 years old.
no. as a matter of fact, the niners ‘tweaked’ theirs during the steve young era and woke up and realized ‘what were we thinking?’ ditto the giants who had awful unis for two decades before rediscovering the classics that they wear now.
Nothing comes to mind. That’s why I wouldn’t mind a “tweak” (along the lines of what OSU does every few years) but am totally against a “radical makeover”. I’ve seen a couple ideas that I didn’t mind, but I don’t know where to find them.
Patriots?
I hereby withdraw my earlier post…
Oh come on, man. I’ve been a Browns fan for as long as I’ve lived and I’m still open to any changes at this point. Our history has been tarnished since the move, and as long as we keep plain orange helmets and brown jerseys, I’ll probably be ok with whatever superficial tweaks Nike’s design team presents. Note: this is redirected to @eyes if you are using sarcasm font.
my personal favorite concept here. i like the gold accent.
How much does the uniform portion of the contest contribute to who gets to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season?
Don’t forget about the Seahawks and Broncos…
I could live with that. I like the brown jersey/white pants combo better, though.
Rams and the first Buccaneers change, too.
Forgot about the Pats. That one was an improvement. Now that I think about it, the Cardinals, the Chargers, the Falcons, and the Lions have all made slight changes/updates to their unis in the past few years that I would consider improvements.
The Bucs, Broncos, Bengals, and Jags are all cautionary tales, though.
Mic, does the Tampa Bay makeover look like a “superficial tweak”?
Nike doesn’t do subtle. Get ready for another sartorial atrocity.
Bingo, Kanick! Those New York Yankees look so uncool and dull-edge.
Change it all.
I agree with your point, for sure. Change can be good, as long as its in the right direction. To me its all a product of the current marketing strategies you are see in almost every business. Companies no longer care about their core fan base, we will always be there. Its the middle of the road individual that they want to attract. Look at TV shows, cooking for example. its rare that something is just about the food or technique. There is always some fabricated sense of drama to hopefully attract the non “foodie”. Sporting events are no longer concerned with the die hard, we will always be there. Hence the bombardment of gimmicks in between innings and the extra entertainment options. I truly hope the “cool” is rooted in history, tradition and a nostalgia that the die hards can identify with and appreciate.
Oregon?
What did you expect Schenier to say? Of course he will use “our”. I think thats a little bit of an unfair criticism. However, your point about the “new blood” is noted and I agree that they should be aware of not alienating the original “die hards”.
phil knight u (oregon) is the culprit driving all this. now most college teams (and all borderline progams) use ‘cutting edge’ unis in recruiting. the downside to recruiting players who are a bit too into their shiny helmets is that they are less into playing football. (e.g., see the last several oregon/stanford tilts.)
you can kind of understand the reality and imperative when your program’s success depends on recruiting high school athletes. but for NFL teams, pimped out unis are the way to generate buzz in tradition-less cities like jax, tampa, charlotte.
the one outlier here is seattle because their original uniforms were indeed horrible. the pats also had weak uniforms before. but teams like buffalo, detroit, minnesota.. their uniforms are worse than what they had before.
i could go on and on. you tell me if the uniforms changes the rams have been pulling since the 70s match up with these.
“Nike doesn’t do subtle.”
Truer words have never been spoken.
I like Northwestern’s uni’s, and for the NFL Buffalo upgraded as well.
But a black jock strap!
