Indians closer John Axford perfect…on Oscars predictions
March 3, 2014The Browns have a lot of money, so why not just spend it all?
March 3, 2014Well, it looks like we can save debates about Cleveland Indians attendance for at least a little bit. The team announced via its Twitter account that their Opening Day game on Friday April 4 against the Minnesota Twins is sold out. Not only that, Tribe fans managed to sell out Progressive Field in just 15 minutes.
Opening Day is officially a sellout! 15 minutes – not bad, Tribe fans!

The Indians followed up with a press release indicating that this is the 22nd straight sold out Home Opener and the 21st at Progressive Field. Not a bad little streak for this team and this town.
Hopefully, the play on the field leads to lots of meaningful games and more than one playoff game for the fans to sell out this fall.

Unfortunately, there will probably be less than 15,000 for the following game and less than 10,000 for the following weekday games. Still, it’s good news. Glad I got my tickets on Friday.
Maybe if they actually win with packed house, crowds will keep coming. They tend to poop the bed when all eyes are on them.
Yes, this will totally delay the attendance debates until the second game, maybe even the third! Selling out home openers has never been the issue, as the numbers show. The real surprise would be if we’re not locked in a battle with the Rays for last in the AL in attendance come July or August.
Tried to get 4 best available right as the clock changed to 10:00 and struck out. Once I changed my request to 2 I wasn’t having any luck for a few minutes and finally 2 in right field became available. Not surprised they sold out the game, just a little surprised I didn’t have more luck in the first few minutes.
No worries, there are still about 37,000 tickets available for the 2nd home game.
Amazingly there are already 2560 tix on StubHub. Tribe forgets to mention there were other presales last Thursday/Friday. How many of these went straight from Tribe employees to Scalpers????
crazy. i got shut out immediately at 10 am and got the too much traffic message. was never able to see any available seats.
They could win all 3 of the first home stand and fans will use weather as the excuse they didn’t show.
Always a riot to me how Browns fans can stand out in 30 degree weather to watch that excuse for an NFL team and Tribe fans can never seem to find a sweater or a coat in April.
I think the coldest winter in 20 years helped the Tribe here. Hopefully Nature holds true and gives us a lot of bright and sunny days for the other 80 home dates at Progressive Field!
In all fairness, Browns fans do it once a week, on the weekend, for 8 weeks. It’s likely harder to find motivation when it’s 4 weekday evenings in the middle of April. That said, I don’t really want to get into a “fans are bad” conversation over all of this (it just brings me back to last season).
Not to be that guy (but I’m going to anyway), but I’ve got to watch them play 3 times now in the high 70’s here in AZ….but I would honestly trade it all for a freezing opening day in CLE!!
