Video: Dion Waiters’ monster dunk on 76ers
February 18, 2014Dion Waiters says “nothing is torn” following dunk-based injury
February 19, 2014Cleveland sports fans are waiting. Thus, while weâre all waiting, the WFNY editors thought you might enjoy reading. Because you never know how long we might be waiting. “Q. “If their favorite quarterback is off the board, how do you feel about Sammy Watkins and maybe a quarterback at 26 or 35, and having said that, does Derek Carr project as a long term starter worth taking?”
Mayock: “Oh, Watkins. Watkins would be awesome there. I think they can get a running back in a bunch of different places, given the number of picks the Browns have had year. I’m all in on that kid, he can really play, and regarding the quarterback, yeah, I think Carr would be an interesting guy at 26.” [Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]

The Reds created some controversy with a new facial hair policy. #TeamBeard “Coming from a team with one of the most ruggedly handsome mascots, this is a sad and unexpected move from the bald-faced front office in Southern Ohio. Frankly, we at the AMI are very disappointed in the discriminatory actions coming from the Reds front office. The mere thought that one could ‘tame’ the facial hair of world-class athletes is laughable, at best. From a strategic standpoint, this policy should not sit well with the Cincinnati fan base.” [Fox Sports Ohio]

“Itâs an amazing event really — some call it a ânon-eventâ — but itâs also one that matters to certain players. Consider Browns tight end Jordan Cameron. Coming out of USC, he had started for one year and had 16 catches and a touchdown. He would have gone unnoticed had it not been for his work in the East-West Shrine Game. But it was at the combine where Cameron really opened eyes. He finished in the top three of all drills, and was fifth among tight ends in the bench press. That led the Browns to take him in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. He progressed steadily as a player, and this season went to the Pro Bowl.” [McManamon/AFC North Blog]

“Cleveland Cavaliers: Itâs hard to get a feel for a team under new management, but the desperation in Cleveland is palpable. Thereâs also been an odd amount of rumored activity swirling around the underperforming Jarrett Jack, which either means the Cavs are pursuing a market for the handsomely paid guard through media channels or that other teams are calling acting GM David Griffin with Jack in mind.” [Mahoney/Point Forward]

Watch film on Brian Hoyer. [Kanicki]

Did someone say Sammy…

I apologize if this isn’t the proper forum for this, but is anyone else having issues with Disqus on their phone? For a week or so now, Disqus has failed to load on my iPhone.
Posting from phone as a check. Samsung gsiii
I’ve heard it’s an iOS issue with Safari, if you use Chrome it should alleviate the problem.
I know it’s probably naive to think that Hoyer could be the answer, after only 3 games, but watching that game film of him (thanks, Kanicki) at least left me again wondering “what might have been” this year if he hadn’t been hurt. Apart from 2 really bad INTs and a couple of really bad reads, the rest of his throws were so much better than anything else we saw last season. (But then, maybe all things worked out well. If Hoyer hadn’t been hurt, we might have won a handful of games more than we did, Chud wouldn’t have been fired, and we would still have Lombanner.)
Ah, thanks Ed!
No problem, hope it helps. I think Andrew (Rock) or Kirk were also discussing it on twitter a few weeks ago, if it’s still an issue, might not hurt to reach out to them and ask.
he still reminds me of Holcomb (both good and bad). he always anticipates the WR, but doesn’t always anticipate the defender. the key will be if he can mask where he will be throwing so the defense cannot get the jump (Kelly never figured that part out). we will see, but there is some promise in there.
I prefer not to think about the alternative.
Well said.
For me, it comes down to this: I still don’t think that any of the QBs in the draft are “can’t miss” guys. As such, I’d rather have Hoyer+Gordon+Watkins over Manziel/Bridgewater/Bortles + Gordon + ? (Lee? Little? FA?).
While I have become convinced that Manziel would be the best QB to draft, I still don’t want them to do it. Conclusion: Draft Sammy Watkins.
If Farmer isn’t real sure about a QB, I’d love Watkins at #4. A fast, strong beast like that who, like Gordon, can quickly release from the line, and with Cameron a threat, you have quite the pick your poison decisions for any defense. Then use the later first rounder or second rounder for the QB and ride Hoyer next year. Hoyer may not be the future but should be fine quickly spotting the match ups and getting his horses the ball in stride.
I know, I know, we need the QB. But they best not force the decision if they aren’t sure. They hopefully won’t pick this high for a while, so take the sure game changer if he’s on the board.
also my thinking. Today, anyways.
that’s a fair conclusion if you don’t believe in the QBs. I believe Bridgewater to be a QB to trust though. And, I firmly believe in fixing the QB position and do not fully trust Hoyer (injury or play). So, I’m willing to take the risk.
It is looking less likely that Lee (USC, WR) will be there at 26 though, which makes me sad.
Manziel is hard to resist…be strong!
I like the way you think.
and, here’s one more thought that won’t happen but is fun to think about:
throw a bunch of money at Jimmy Graham in FA too.
Graham/Cameron/Gordon/Watkins – good luck NFL defenses
GMPC [“Great Minds Post Coffee” – Ray Farmer taught me that]
Add an upgrade at the guards, and watch out.
Although, rather than Graham, I’d like to see Cameron/Gordon/Watkins + Tate.
and just throw a mediocre RB in there and, and … love this February football
might I interest you in a Hyde(power)+ Grice(great receiving 3rd down guy) combo platter in the middle rounds?
perhaps a dash of Dozier (Furman, OG) in there as well for added flavor?
…..tasting….
needs some Aaron Murray or Connor Shaw in the late rounds to protect against the potential rotting fruit of Hoyer (injury or ineffectiveness).
Graham > Tate
A healthy Dion Lewis, perhaps?
are you trying to say that we just need the bear necessities?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ogQ0uge06o
Some Andre Williams, maybe?
I think Jeremy Gallon would make a great slot WR.
Lewis is not an every down back, IMO. I’m thinking of a stronger guy who forces a safety and LB to make a quick decision about getting to the line on early downs. Just having a safety and coverage LB leaning the wrong way is deadly with a QB who makes quick decisions and Cameron, Gordon and Watkins breaking different directions.
a bit sour on Andre (though Shanny’s system is the one where he would do best)
I came to the same conclusion on my way into work today. Just because we need our franchise QB does not mean any of these QBs necessarily are. And taking a QB just for the sake of it is not the right decision.
You mean the One Cut And Run Like Hell system? lol
I know Lombanner was really high on Ben Tate.
I hope he’s still on Farmer’s radar.
When I think of Gordon/Watkins/Cameron/Graham, I have visions of the old Houston Oilers Chuck n Duck offense. lol
Listen to us. Hoping the “Cleveland Browns” will make the “right decision.”
Somebody please send Farmer a link to this forum. đ
Mega-dittoes.
BTW, picture Chud sitting in Tressel’s old office at Colts HQ. He’s shufflling papers at his desk when a secretary drops off a copy of the Colts’ daily NFL briefing memo. Chud’s eyes bug out as he reads that Banner has just been canned. He convulses with laughter on the floor for the rest of the day.
Q: The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is ‘What does a woman want?’
A: She wants Sammy Watkins!
Banner still can’t believe he got fired…

i get how it seems naive, but i also wonder if our fandom would recognize a good (or great) qb in seal brown. i’m repeating the exercise with the bengals film and he looks good in a different way. bengals game plan was more run, ball control, and sure enough no turnovers and a ball-control long drive to close out the game.
yessir. I’d be a bit concerned about him finding the right spot to make that cut, but when he did he’d do well. it’s also why I’m even higher on Hyde now. he’d be an absolute monster (assuming we upgrade OG).
rare video of Mangini, Savage, Holmgren, Butch, and Policy as the Banner firing is revealed to them:

I still think Tate will make too much $$$ on the open-market to be worth it. I think Donald Brown makes less and is nearly as good. I think a couple of the rookie RBs are potentially just as good.
you are doing good work with these breakdowns sir. hard to not exercise caution with a 2 game sample QB who may not be fully recovered from his ACL injury, but it is good work nonetheless.
He’s playing the read and he does that very very well. He’s very smart. He may be missing that extra dimension which allows him to pull the ball back when the D knows you do that robotically and starts baiting you. On the other hand, maybe he finds that dimension. If he does, I think he could be fantastic. If he doesn’t, yeah, maybe a slightly better holcomb would be the top end.
yes to all of this, but count one vote for mike evans.
yes, this is exactly what I was saying. thanks.
which would make him the best browns qb since otto graham
and look at how calm Lombardi is, knowing he can again call himself a former GM when he applies for his media jobs
excellent
