Cavs at the halfway point, everything sucks

January 24, 2014In a radio interview with Buffalo’s WGR 550, newly signed Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine says that he would have been forced to withdraw his name from the team’s search if it had dragged on any longer.
“That was starting to wear on me these last couple of days,” Pettine said. “I talked to Doug [Marrone] and it was getting to the point where I’d say, ‘Hey, if this goes on much longer I need to pull out because it’s just not fair to the Bills.'”
The Browns fired Rob Chudzinski following the team’s final game at the tail end of December. They didn’t approach Pettine until about two to two-and-a-half weeks into the process, meaning the coach was getting ready for life in Buffalo. As the process drew on, and the Browns were attempting to leave no stone unturned, the Bills were reportedly growing uncomfortable with the uncertainy surrounding their future.
Pettine did add, howver, that Bills head coach Doug Marrone (who was on the Browns’ radar last season) helped prepare him for the process as well as the team.
“Well he had interviewed with the Browns a year ago, so he was very familiar with how the interviews were structured and who I’d be meeting with and the questions that were being asked,” Pettine said. “He had researched the franchise. It was a situation where he had a lot of good information for me. It was very helpful.”

He clearly dodged the question about having potential control over the 53 man…this is just another thing he should have kept his mouth shut about.
Look…this shines way more on Haslem/Banner (who were obviously a complete JOKE yesterday by not taking questions). Lets see if they can get anyone as coordinators.
This is probably why Buffalo contacted the Browns late on Wednesday asking them for a decision one way or the other. Personally I can’t wait for more to leak out about “The Great Browns Coaching Search of 2014” because I honestly believe, unlike many who post here, it didn’t go nearly as planned. I think it was an exact repeat of last year only this time the people in charge found out just how bad being the HC of the Cleveland Browns had become in the world.
I sensed the arrogant Banner and Haslam were playing chicken with another candidate that was almost forced to tell them to “Stick it”. And the “mystery candidate” as a lombardi banner production–a leak to the media to give them leverage in the contract talks with Pettine and agent. Glad this ride is over. I think the Browns could have done much worse. More confident in new coach than the rest of the stooges.
“because I honestly believe, unlike many who post here, it didn’t go nearly as planned.”
You can’t be seriously saying you’ve been the one voice of reason, here, can you? Have there truly, in your mind, been a ton of people lining up to say this is exactly how the organization planned things out?
If I believed that I would have said it DP so the answer is no. I do however believe 100% that I have been the loudest and most singled out poster by opponents however. It would have been nice to have others especially WFNY guys chime in as well but I didn’t see a whole lot of it. Maybe I’m wrong. It happens. Not often.
FWIW: Saw that Banner said that if Quinn was”likely to be prevail, we would not like to have taken 10 more days of the pummeling, but we would’ve waited.” Even though there were no other bidder teams, it shows the enormous pressure they felt from fans & the media to make a decision ASAP (again not real “bidding against other team pressures” but “panic alleviating” pressures).
I don’t buy Pettine’s proffered explanation that it would have been “unfair to the Bills” for him to wait another 10 days–Pettine is a smart man, knew the media and fans pressures, and made them pull the trigger. Good negotiating on his part. He may be the right guy–but I hate to see the decision pressured when it could have waited until they fleshed out Quinn more.
I mean this with all due respect, but you have not been reading the same comments that I’ve been reading here, then.
Hmmmmmmm I don’t know DP perhaps my reading comprehension problem is kicking in with all of this sub Arctic weather around here I don’t know. In any event I look forward to seeing more people with WFNYs attached commenting.
So in conclusion I’ll just say 5 little words: welcome to the party pal!!!!
