Kyrie Irving day-to-day after MRI on knee

DSC_0551Cavalier fans breathed a huge sigh of relief this afternoon when word broke that Cavaliers’ All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving’s MRI on his right knee was merely precautionary. Irving is listed as day-to-day and questionable for tomorrow night’s game against the Orlando Magic.

Kyrie injured the knee on a drive to the basket in the third quarter where his leg gave out as he missed the layup. Irving went straight to the locker room after gingerly walking off the floor, but he returned just a few minutes later and saw extensive action in the fourth quarter.

In a season where anything that could go wrong has for the 10-21 Cavs, Irving is leading the team in scoring with 22.2 points and 6.1 assists on 42.8% shooting. He is currently in line to win the fan vote and start in the All-Star game in February. Irving has said on several occasions this year that he is striving to play all 82 games after missing 38 games in his first two seasons.

I smell a chance for some “Ewing Theory” here. Irving really hasn’t played that well and has been a ball-stopper in the 4th quarter (by Mike Brown design, or at least he’s cool with it being that way). I wonder if the Cavs will play better without him?

I’m glad Irving isn’t hurt worse because had he been it would have killed the discussions with the Lakers. I’m still holding out hope that the Cavaliers can do a deal with LA.
