NFL News: Desmond Bryant done for the season with irregular heartbeat

The Browns announced Wednesday that DL Desmond Bryant is being placed on the reserve/non-football illness list with an irregular heartbeat. Bryant has had problems with this condition the past two seasons, and felt symptoms earlier this season in the Thursday night game against the Bills.

According to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, Bryant will undergo a procedure on Monday.

Bryant was signed to a five year contract in the off-season worth $34 million, almost half of which is guaranteed.

The Browns promoted WR Brian Tyms to the active roster from the practice squad and released LB Justin Staples. Additionally they signed DB T.J. Heath, DL Cam Henderson and LB Jonathan Stewart to the practice squad.

you can’t make this stuff up – how does stuff like this keep happening to the Browns?

Why the indignation? Do you think we still have a shot at something this season?

football players keep getting bigger yet their hearts are roughly the same size as previous era players. it’s actually pretty amazing that more athletes do not have heart issues.

  • Depth

Hopefully the procedure helps and he’ll be full go for the next few years. Bryant is a very effective defensive lineman, but I feel as though he didn’t get enough playing time. Sounds crazy, but at times we seemed to use too big of a rotation. It’s nice to have depth, but Kitchen really shouldn’t be seeing the field with Winn, Bryant, Taylor, Rubin, Hughes and Armonty healthy. This is especially true when we use a 2-4 on passing downs. Wouldn’t mind seeing Winn traded for a second rounder if that’s available.

Things keep getting better in Berea. We also released Justin Staples, a local product from Cleveland.

Yep the old factory of sadness is like a sausage grinder. Well at least it’s well staphed

The question still stands though. Given the amazingness of it not happening to everyone else, why does it still happen to the Browns? To be fair it really doesn’t matter at this stage, in fact it’s a benefit as the quarterback pickings in the draft get slimmer.

It’s not really unique to the Browns. We just tend to not notice when it happens to other teams unless its a big star.

    and renovated!!!!

“Bryant has had problems with this condition the past two seasons”

Clearly even this specific thing doesn’t only happen to the Browns, as Bryant played for the Raiders last season.
