November 27, 2013NBA News: Windhorst says Dan Gilbert is “steaming mad” and other Cavs insights
November 27, 2013Cleveland head coach Rob Chudzinski made it official on Wednesday. Brandon Weeden will be starting at quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jason Campbell was knocked from the game last Sunday against the Steelers with a concussion. He is still going through the league’s protocol on head injuries. Though he has not yet been ruled out of the game on Sunday, he has not practiced and will not again on Wednesday.
The Browns brought in QB Alex Tanney from the Dallas practice squad this week to play back-up in case Campbell was unable to go. Chudzinski said that the Browns will install a small package of plays for Tanney in the event he is forced into action this week.
The Browns are 0-4 this season in games that Weeden starts. He did come into the Buffalo game in the first quarter for the injured Brian Hoyer and lead the team to a win. For the season Weeden has a 51.5% completion rate while throwing for 1,361 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has fumbled four times and has a QB rating of 66.0.
Chudzinski also said that ILBs Tank Carder (shoulder) and Craig Robertson (knee) won’t practice today. CB Buster Skrine (ribs) will practice.

I think my eyeballs just started to bleed reading the headline. Is it a precursor for Sunday’s game?
Yeah, jaguars and bleeding eyes…I think I saw this in Apocalypto. Basically this won’t end well.
I’ll go ahead and put in my early entry for the Winners/Losers thread.
Winner: Brown’s draft position.
At this point in the season, there’s no need to start Weeden. If I’m Lombardi, I’m bringing in every young (<26 yo) available QB out there to try out and play in some games. Worst case they're just as bad as Weeden and we lose most of our remaining games (which would have happened anyways), and get a great draft pick to snag our QB of the future.
Best case we find a diamond in the rough who turns into our long-term QB. That then allows us to spend one of those first rounders on another positions of need (WR, CB, or S?).
Loser: Weeden for making the Browns look like an AFC South team.
Loser: Us Fans for having to watch Weeden try to QB (and for eyes bleeding due to said watching).
Winner: Alex Tanney for getting a real shot at being an NFL starting QB.
can’t wait
Loser: The Browns for signing Alex Tanney
Loser: Fans like me who will be at the game
Winner: Steelers fans because their awful team will be 5-5 and they can make fun of us for losing to the Jags
This has made plenty of rounds on Twitter this season, and it’s still funny (and true) every time it is seen.
5-11! Yeah, progress!
I’m not being a hater here but I legitimately don’t think there is any reason to even watch – they’re going to lose.
Expect < 20,000 people at this game.
yup. still funny
