Cleveland Browns Week Nine: Winners and Losers
November 4, 2013Chudzinski on fourth down call- “We had the opportunity to take the game at that point”
November 4, 2013In the third edition of the BCS standings this season, Alabama remains number one with Florida State and Oregon swapping spots again. The Seminoles were second in the first standings, but gave way to Oregon last week. After a victory over #7 Miami, Florida State recaptures the second spot.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are fourth again after dismantling Purdue 56-0. It was the most lopsided victory in the history of the pairings between the two teams. Ohio State threw for 295 yards and ran for 345 more. In the last two weeks, against Purdue and Penn State, the Buckeyes have rushed for 753 yards.
The Buckeye offense ranks 5th nationally in points scored per game with 48.2 and 8th in rushing yards per contest at 301.1. The defense is 9th overall giving up 17 points per game. The win on Saturday was Ohio State’s second shutout of the season.

Can’t argue at all with these rankings, as much as I wish it was different. I really hope that Urban Meyer continues this relentless beatdown of Big 10 teams. Run up the score, every time you can. At some point, they have got to get the message that they’ve got to get better. A LOT better. Fast. For the first time, when people badmouth OSU for a weak schedule, I feel absolutely no anger – except at the rest of the conference. They better pull up their big boy pants soon. To that end, I’m encouraged by Michigan State. They actually make me a little nervous about the Big 10 championship game. I want a good game.
Oh, and Michigan still sucks.
This is a joke. Oregon is clearly better than FSU. Although they’ll probably flip-flop again assuming Oregon handles Stanford on the road. OSU won’t have a chance unless 2 of the 3 ahead of them lose though. Rose bowl here we come
MSU does have an absolutely amazing defense. I just don’t think they’ll be able to put up enough points to give us a real challenge. No defense is keeping this offense (how they’re playing at present) under 21 and I don’t see any way in the world that MSU scores more than 17 on us. They are a good team and would be a good win, but I would be very surprised if they give us a close game (assuming we both win out and make it there).
It’s 12:28. And Michigan still sucks
I think you’re right. I’m sure their defense is as inflated by poor Big Ten competition as our offense has been (somewhat). In the end, I think our offense pairs much better against other top 5 defenses than MSU’s defense does against those offenses. (They lost to ND, after all.)
Very good point! Our offense will put up points with anyone. And our defense is probably good enough to keep us in the game. While MSU’s D is really good, they’ll still give up points and there offense will never score enough to keep up
On the bright side, though, if these standings stay, we’ll get to face Oregon in the Rose Bowl. If they’re the real #2 team, we’ll get a good idea of where we stand (but I would love to see them lose to Stanford).
I actually think they’ll win at Stanford, because I think Mariota is a monster. Look at his career TD/INT ratio. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Last pick he through was in the first half of the Stanford game last November.
I’m actually a Ducks fan but if we and they make the Rose Bowl I’ll obviously be in my OSU gear. That’s why I hope if the top 4 all win out Oregon will be 2 and get Bama. One, I think they can actually beat Bama, and God knows someone needs to. Two, then I can hopefully see both my teams win major bowls. But I’m afraid if we do get the Ducks in the Rose Bowl we’ll get beat handily. But I guess you never know. It’s hard to judge this OSU team since we haven’t played anyone.
