“I think defenses have found their new trend to frustrate the Browns: attack their inside linebackers in the passing game. Craig Robertson has now turned in two straight below average games, particularly in coverage. Unfortunately, it comes at a position where the Browns are very thin in terms of proven depth (there is no depth, literally).” [Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]

“While those numbers are phenomenal considering Hyde essentially missed the first four games of the season, what is even more impressive is his current YPC average. As aforementioned, every time No. 34 totes the rock he’s been good for 6.2 yards on average. You can’t get much better than that.
Don’t believe me? Let’s bring in our good friends Mark Ingram, Reggie Bush, Ron Dayne, Ricky Williams, Eddie George and Rashaan Salaam. They’ve been kind enough to put their Heisman House hi-jinks on hold for just a few moments to regale us with their YPC averages from their trophy winning seasons.
Take it away fellas: Mark Ingram (2009): 6.1 YPC, Reggie Bush (2005): 8.7 YPC, Ron Dayne (1999): 6.0 YPC, Ricky Williams (1998): 6.0 YPC, Eddie George (1995): 5.9 YPC, Rashaan Salaam (1994): 6.9 YPC” [Beck/Eleven Warriors]

“OK,” Weis told me, “each NFL team carries three quarterbacks, right? That means, at any one time, there are 90 people who have jobs as quarterbacks at the highest level. And I will tell you right now that there aren’t 15 people anywhere in the world who can play that position well. That means there’s a lot of bad quarterbacks in the NFL.”
The sample size is probably a little bit bigger in college football, but not that much bigger, and certainly not that much bigger at the level on which Alabama plays. On any weekend, you will see an astonishing amount of terrible quarterback play, even among the Top 25 teams. This is why the dismissal of AJ McCarron as merely a “game manager” — as though there’s anything wrong with that per se — is glib and inadequate. It is so hard to play the position well, no matter what your individual playing style is, and no matter what your individual athletic skills are, that no quarterback at this level and above truly can be said to be along for the ride. In McCarron’s case, the very idea is ludicrous.” [Cox/Grantland]

Wow. Some reeeeeaaaally wild pitches. “What you’re going to see below are the five wildest pitches from the 2013 regular season, as determined, in three instances, by PITCHf/x and elementary math. In the other two instances, they were determined by visual observation, by me. The idea is to capture pitches furthest from the center of the strike zone, and you’re going to run across a lot of .gifs and screenshots, in case you’re worried about locking up your computer made of balsa wood.” [Fangraphs]

Colts could use a WR I wonder if Banardi contacted them about Gordon?
noone ever worried about our lack of ILB depth. nope. never.
though Robertson has played better than expected this year even considering the past 2 games
3 × 32 ≠ 90.
1. I’m sure they did.
2. Since we already have their #1 pick, I’m sure Banardi asked for Luck in return.
3. The Colts hung up before they finished saying “Luck”
It’s pretty obvious that our ILBs are one dimensional. Both can tackle, but neither one can cover and god forbid they have to shed a block. The browns have the same problem they have had for years – they can’t defend an RB or TE catching the ball.
