NBA News: Waiters out with sore hip

The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the Detroit Pistons in their third preseason game, but will do so without shooting guard Dion Waiters.

Waiters was ruled out of tonight’s contest with a right hip contusion (bruise). Rookie Sergey Karasev will start at shooting guard in his place as coach Mike Brown wants to get looks at different combinations of players. Karasev has 10 points and five assists in two preseason games.

Small forward Alonzo Gee will play despite being slowed by a hamstring issue. He and Earl Clark continue to battle for the starting small forward spot. Neither player has stood out in coach Brown’s eyes.
