NFL Rumor: Barkevious Mingo cleared for contact, could play Sunday

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports this morning that Cleveland Browns’ first round draft pick Barkevious Mingo had been cleared to resume contact drills.

Mingo has been sidelined since the second preseason games with a bruised lung. The injury occurred early in the game against the Detroit Lions. Mingo complained of shortness of breath, and was spitting up blood on the sideline when he was taken to the Cleveland Clinic for evaluation and held there for precautions.

Barkevious had a very good preseason game against the Rams, having a sack wiped away with a penalty and putting pressure on QB Sam Bradford several other times. He also made a couple of plays on special teams, including the first tackle on the opening kick-off.

He has been practicing with the team for the last two weeks, but not participating in any contact drills. If this report is true, Mingo could see his first regular season action this week in Baltimore as the Browns take on the Ravens.

But the real question is: can he play guard? That’s where we need a stud rookie the most.

  • mgbode

with as big and fast as he is, I’ll bet he can run some zone-read QB when needed.

Now I see why the Browns took so long to find their kicker, they’ve been waiting for Mingo to take over that role.

you mean we are never going to kick again and just line-up Mingo and tell him to get the 1st down? Haslam did say we would be aggressive in everything.

Rejoice! I’m excited to see Mingo at all times, but particularly late in the game when his ridiculous motor will eat Bryant McKinnie’s lunch.

Anybody else see Winn almost come in on offense before they got flagged near the goaline and then weeden through the TD to Cameron?

    Spergon Wynn?

Billy Winn, all the players were talking to the ref and pointing at him

Or corner. Shame neither were available at our spot in the draft…

in general, I am absolutely loathesome to “draft for need” in the top10 of any draft. Take the best player.

now, it remains to be seen if Mingo was the best player.

Or at the very least the 6th best player
