Writer’s Block Roundtable on the boring Browns and Indians playoff race
September 17, 2013See, it is not just a Cleveland Problem!
September 17, 2013The San Francisco 49ers signed Owen Marecic today after sending nose tackle Ian Williams to injured reserve. The former Cleveland Browns fullback was released by the team on August 27th.

We’re talking about a former Browns fan whipping boy, of course. Whether it was to highlight supposed Browns drafting incompetence or simply just another excuse to talk about fan favorite Laurence Vickers, Marecic’s name came up early and often. The comments on the Marecic post were pretty interesting, actually.
Harv 21 said: ok, it’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it. Marecic:
– had a heckuva back story as a competent 2-way player.
– was never arrested and never complained bout nuthin’.
– has much brighter post-NFL career prospects then, say, Josh Gordon, what with his genuine Stanford degree.
The death watch is officially over. Godspeed, Owen. WFNY peeps: he’s gone, and Russell Branyan and David Delucci aren’t walking back through that door. Time for a new punchline guy.
Make sure you go check the rest for the thread about the worst Browns draft picks since 1999. I saw a Beau Bell reference in there, I think.

I can see Dawson, Wright, and McCoy greeting him warmly at the door when he arrives. “Yes, you have suffered”, they will say. “Fear not, this is a place of competence and stability”.
And then they will all drink a toast to those players who haven’t made it out yet.
When you see SF pick up these guys tell me some part of your sports brain doesn’t just for a monet go “uh, wait, in retrospect were his hands and blocking that much worse that Chris Ogbonnaya.”
No but they were both much worse than Lawrence Vickers.
How much pull does Brad Seely have over there in SF?!?
don’t forget Mangini!!!!

Come on now. Marecic played for Harbaugh at Stanford and this is surely do to experience rather than “Wow we are going to utilize Owen Marecic!” This will probably be nothing more than a practice squad favor from coach to former player.
I feel like an Owen Marecic post is like one giant softball, or some cathartic pinata. While I appreciate the opportunity to beat on him, in light of our woefulness, I’ve got to respectfully decline. Best of luck to you Owen. I wish you well, hands o stone…
no doubt. well, some doubt
I can see the 49ers continuing to offer roster spots to incompetent players from the Browns thus turning into Cleveland Browns West, the California hub for incompetence (Dawson removed from that list, of course).
