Browns add tight ends MarQueis Gray and Keavon Milton to roster, Jasper Collins to Practice Squad

There’s nowhere busier than Berea, Ohio right now as the Browns have submitted a whirlwind of transactions already today. It continues with the addition of former Minnesota quarterback MarQueis Gray to the active roster. Gray is now giving it a go as a tight end, and he caught one pass in the preseason for the 49ers. The undrafted rookie is 6’4″ and 240 lbs., boasting a 4.73 40 time at the NFL combine this past spring. Gray played some wide receiver at Minnesota and has had some work at running back as well, but it’s likely with the cut of Kellen Davis earlier today that he becomes the team’s third option at tight end behind Jordan Cameron and Gary Barnidge.

Milton was claimed after being cut by the New Orleans Saints. He is an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana-Monroe and a big guy at 6’4″ and 293 pounds, catching 25 passes in his collegiate career for 220 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Mount Union product wide receiver Jasper Collins was also added to the Browns practice squad. Collins was signed by the Dolphins following the 2013 NFL Draft, but he was waived/injured and cleared waivers in early August. He is 6’0″ and 190 lbs, and the D3 prospect caught 92 passes for 1,694 yards and 22 touchdowns, earning all-Conference honors in the OAC.

With Josh Gordon suspended for the team’s first two games, the team currently has just four active wide receivers in Davone Bess, Greg Little, Josh Cooper, and Travis Benjamin.

We should hear about some more roster cuts in the near future. One would expect at least one, probably two, cuts to come from the offensive line as the team has 13 right now.

With the roster three heavy to our knowledge right now, here’s who the Browns have by position:

The injuries on the OL are starting to really worry me. There isn’t much information out there regarding their returns to the lineup and the high number of OL on the roster leads me to believe they are going for a quantity over quality approach to that position. In other words, throwing a bunch of guys into the deep end and seeing who doesn’t drown.

Oh and having no kicker with a week until the first game is such a prototypical Browns move.
