HERO! “Eventually, they found a person who offered to help translate Portuguese to English at the American Airlines desk in order to get them onto another flight.
This person turned out to be Anderson Varejao, who also helped the pair of travelers get into a Miami hotel where they eventually stayed overnight before catching the second leg of their flight home to Brazil the following day.” [Bowers/Stepien Rules]
“Chris: “QB Thaddeus Lewis started for the Browns against the Steelers in Week 17 last year and did an admirable job. He is buried at fourth on the Lions’ depth chart, though. Is there any word about how he’s done in camp or if he has a chance at making the roster?”
Sean: “There are a lot of fans — myself included — who don’t understand why Kellen Moore is the Lions’ No. 3 quarterback. He just doesn’t look the part of an NFL quarterback, yet he seems firmly entrenched as the third-stringer at this position. We’d like to see Lewis get a real shot at beating out Moore, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. Lewis only came in at the very end of the preseason opener, and he only got to hand the ball off as a result. Moore, on the other hand, got a significant amount of playing time, which is exactly what happened last year. If Lewis doesn’t play much again this week, chances are he will soon be released.” [Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]
“Here’s the scenario: There are two outs and the Rock Cats have runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh inning. Since this is the second game of a doubleheader, per league rules, the seventh is the final inning unless there’s a tie, which at this moment there is, 5-5. Reynaldo Rodriguez comes up to bat for the Rock Cats, needing a base hit to win the game.
The Fisher Cats make a sound baseball decision: intentionally walk Rodriguez to load the bases and give themselves the option of a force play at any base. You’ve seen this move before plenty of times, no big deal. Until…” [Oz/Big League Stew]
“Part of what will help here is the fact that Ohio State will likely continue playing a lot of nickel this season, meaning that linebackers won’t be at a premium. Part of what won’t help is the fact that unless Grant finally, finally realizes his potential, you’re looking for answers from two guys with very little experience and a true freshman. If opposing defenses start finding soft spots in the middle of the defensive line, there’s no Zach Boren walking through the door to save everyone’s butts.” [Ginter/Eleven Warriors]
“Ever hear of Emmitt Smith, Frank Gore and LaDainian Tomlinson? They were nothing before Turner showed up. OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but Turner has been one of the best offensive coordinators in football and got the best out of those guys. Turner likes to run the ball and throw the ball to running backs, which then opens things up for his quarterbacks.
So, when Turner cleared his throat and announced he was taking his OC talents to Cleveland this season, you should have highlighted the names Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron in your fantasy magazine.” [Tafur/Sports on Earth]
