August 15, 2013For the Browns, it’s time for the “next man up” to produce

“The Browns’ starters have looked tremendous in both preseason games. Quarterback Brandon Weeden looks far, far better than he did at any point as a rookie last year. The defense has played well and the special teams has made big plays. The starters dominated against the Lions on Thursday before they were given the rest of the night off.
Does it matter? For a downtrodden franchise that needs any bit of positive news, some great signs during the first two preseason games is certainly better than nothing.” [Schwab/Shutdown Corner]

Hopefully quicker than this. “It is probably going to take a year and maybe two to bear this out, but the Browns got a steal in Garrett Gilkey, provided he stays healthy. Athletically, he is still an incredibly strong player who is incredibly light on his feet, especially going forward. He plays to the echo of the whistle, looks to finish blocks and is the type of guy that teammates will hate in practice because he is just so irritating with how hard he works. It would hardly be surprising if defensive linemen start fights in part because of Gilkey. When the games get going, Gilkey’s effort and attitude drives the opponent nuts and gives the Browns’ offensive line a badly needed injection of mean streak. Gilkey is always looking to send a message to the opponent and drive them into the ground.” [Smith/Dawg Pound Daily]

“ESPN will debut a new Monday Night Football intro this season that will be directed by Peter Berg, the man behind the Friday Night Lights film and television series. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Berg’s 90-second intro will feature MNF‘s famous theme music — “Heavy Action” — playing behind a montage of football and cultural highlights from the 44 seasons of MNF.
The network hasn’t had a permanent intro since dropping Hank Williams Jr.’s popular “Are you ready for some football” in the middle of the 2011 season after the country music singer made an Adolf Hitler analogy while discussing Barack Obama.” [Chase/For the Win]

Speaking of Monday Night Football I thought it was hilarious that ESPN was calling yesterday’s Bears – Chargers preseason game Monday Night Football
I watched a grand total of 3 minutes of that game. As soon as I heard Berman it was over.
The “Monday Night” brand transcends Monday night.
In an innocuous sense, it really is like something out of 1984 isn’t it?
Browns streaker goes down:

No matter what they pay security, no amount enough for me to get low on the streaker like that employee. Dedication.
