NFL News: Richardson, Ward among those out for Browns against Rams

Wednesday’s walk through practice was closed to the pubic, but afterward head coach Rob Chudzinski provided some updates on who would be sitting out the first preseason game against the Rams.

“Shaun Lauvao will not play, he’ll be out for the game.” Chudzinski said. “Trent Richardson and T.J. Ward we’ll also hold for the game. Those guys would be available to play normally, but since it’s the preseason we’re going to be smart with them.”

In addition, rookie Leon McFadden will not play with a pulled groin suffered in practice Tuesday. WR David Nelson, RB Montario Hardesty, FB Brad Smelley, OL Ryan Miller, OL Oniel Cousins and DL Chris Faulk will also miss the game with various injuries. These players have been sitting out of practice for several days.

Chudzinski did not have any further updates on guard Shaun Lauvao who left practice on a cart Monday after injuring his ankle. Jason Pinkston will start in place of Lauvao.

Hoping Richardson plays more in games 2 and 3 before sitting in the last exhibition game. He needs reps!

  • Jonah Christopher

He does? Why? He just needs to stay healthy… I’m sure 300 carries and 60 targets are enough reps for the 2nd year back.

  • Vindictive_Pat

Agreed… Richardson didn’t play at all in the preseason last year. At least this year he’s been able to practice with the team on the field.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

New system new everything he doesn’t have to play an entire game or even a half but he can’t not play at all.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

And it showed him missing the entire preseason. He’s not LT yet he needs to play. If he’s that fragile then you have a bigger problem.

  • Vindictive_Pat

You’ll get nothing more than a “m’eh” out of me, good sir.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

New ownership, new coaching staff, new team c’mon man NO GUTS, NO GLORY!

  • JK

You said it.. It’s his 2nd year, he needs reps. If he gets hurt by playing 2 preseason games do you really think he wouldn’t have got hurt during the regular season?

  • saggy

is that anything like a “meh”?

I would like to see him take a few preseason hits, myself. Just to get the body ready to absorb regular season assault and battery.
