MLB News: Indians place Raburn on 15-day disabled list
August 28, 2013While We’re Waiting… Low blows
August 29, 2013The Browns made yet another move on Wednesday, adding linebacker Eric Martin to the mix. To make room on the 75 man roster, the team waived defensive back Trevin Wade.
Martin, a 6-2, 250-pound linebacker in his rookie season out of Nebraska, originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent on April 28. He appeared in all three of the Saints’ preseason contests and recorded one special-teams tackle. He was waived Tuesday.
As a first-team All-Big Ten honoree as a senior, Martin led the Cornhuskers with 8.5 sacks. A native of Moreno Valley, Calif., he graduated from Rancho Verde High School.
Martin will wear No. 56 and is expected to be available for Thursday’s game.
The Browns added linebacker Paul Hazel via waivers on Monday. Hazel projects as an outside linebacker, while Martin should be an inside backer. Obviously neither are assured a spot, but the Martin move could mean the end of James Michael-Johnson’s time in Cleveland.

Let’s just be honest – the 2011 and 2012 browns were probably 6-10 or 7-9 teams, but for 2 things – An inexplicable collapse of their long snapper in 2011 and a head coach who couldn’t possibly figure out how to win if his life depended on it
With that said, it is just as possible for the browns to go 9-7 this year as it is 5-11. The factors that will dictate that are 2 fold. Will there be any unforeseen cosmic disaster that will cause us to lose 2 games for no reason (this has to be something crazy like having graham’s leg come off during a kick and hitting Mack in the head and knocking mack out for the season – not just simple injury to Richardson) and Chud has to prove he is at least a decent head coach.
At this point, there is no way to can know the answer to either of those. If you want to make a prediction, simply state if you think Chud will answer the call cause that’s really the only thing worth talking about.
It’s really all on Weedon’s progression. Don’t turn the ball over and get the offense to score about 24 points a game. Average, of course, not every single game.
I think the defense will be solid and hold the opponents somewhere around 20, especially if the offense keeps them off the field like they should and does not give up too many short fields with turnovers.
Pretty simple game, right?
I liked Wade’s size and speed. Maybe he’ll end up on the practice squad.
Didn’t see this coming. Wade seemed to be making improvements and he’s the biggest CB on our roster (not saying much, but still seems like something we could use).
alot of people were high on Martin pre-draft. interesting that the 3-4 Saints didn’t want him, but most places I read thought he could be a dynamic ST LBer with a good upside as a rotational LBer. at the bottom of the depth chart, he is the type of guy to give a look.
Another linebacker? I guess the secondary is better then it has looked.
Pfffft no sweat except for the Weeden part, not turning the ball over, score 24 points a game, the defense being solid, not allowing more then 20 points a game and getting turnovers. Other then that you nailed it! 😉
Mike Lombardi ain’t got nothin’ on u!
