MLB News: Danny Salazar throws five no-hit innings for Columbus
August 2, 2013While We’re Waiting… Cleveland’s continued development
August 3, 2013Second round draft pick Carrick Felix and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a four-year deal worth $3.3 million, with three guaranteed years, according to HoopsWorld (tweet). Second round selections do not have guaranteed deals, making the length of this agreement somewhat of a surprise.
Felix, who turns 23 in two weeks, was a shocking selection by the Cavs at No. 33 in June’s draft. A 6-foot-6 wing out of Arizona State, he’s a versatile and athletic defender who showcased his three-and-D abilities at the Las Vegas Summer League last month. The Cavs squad eventually fell in the tournament quarterfinals.
Last season for the Sun Devils, Felix had by far his most productive collegiate season. He averaged 14.6 points and 8.1 rebounds with a 56.9% efficiency field goal percentage in 35.3 minutes per game. The senior was named All-Pac 12 1st Team All-Conference and All-Defensive.
SB Nation’s James Herbert and Conrad Kazcamarek both have written lengthy features from Las Vegas about the master’s degree-holding rookie. In the articles, Felix discussed his love for skateboarding, his unique college recruiting process, his internship with Fox Sports, his ability to fit with Mike Brown’s defense and his NBA-worthy shooting range.
In the tight fight for minutes for the 2013-14 Cavaliers, Felix might actually have an opening to perhaps play 10-15 per night on the wing. The team retains starter Alonzo Gee, has a partial-guarantee deal with C.J. Miles and brought in Earl Clark, who’s expected to also play at small forward. Guard Dion Waiters will play exclusively at the 2, where he’ll likely share minutes with new addition Jarrett Jack.
The Cavaliers’ preseason schedule begins Oct. 8 at Quicken Loans Arena against Milwaukee. The 2013-14 NBA schedule is expected to be released on Tuesday.

I sure hope its $3.3m total, not annually
That would be correct (total). HoopsWorld had the year-by-year breakdown.
While Felix is a nice prospect, there is no chance Mike Brown will give him 10-15 minutes a game.Chances are he will be at best the 12th man on the bench for most games, or on the inactive list. If any rookie gets a little burn at the 2 or 3 it will be Karasev
Anything is possible and if the kid practice well and plays to his coach wantings, he could see time on the court which I do see happening.
I don’t agree with that… Felix is already a polished defender and brings energy when he’s on the court. I think it’s flipped… Felix is in line for those minutes and if Karasev wants to see the court, he’ll need to show Mike Brown that he’s playing hard on defense.
