Sunday Six Pack: Reasons to stay optimistic following loss to Colts
August 25, 2013NFL Rumors: Barkevious Mingo not going to play for “a while”
August 25, 2013The Indians have announced today that Josh Tomlin has been activated from the 60 day disabled list and will remain in AAA Columbus.
The Cleveland Indians today recalled RHP JOSH TOMLIN from his 30-day rehab assignment, activated him from the 60-day Disabled List and optioned him to AAA Columbus.
The Indians 40-man roster is again at 40.
Tomlin pitched Friday in Columbus, 12 months after Tommy John surgery ended his 2012 season. In Friday’s outing Tomlin gave 5 solid innings, but fell victim to a rocky three run fourth inning.
Sheldon Ocker of The Akron Beacon Journal reported on Friday that Tomlin could be less than two weeks away from returning to the big leagues. The plan according to manger Terry Francona is to have him pitch through the remainder of the minor league season and then evaluate where he’s at.
“Hopefully, Josh will get two more starts before the minor-league season is over, and we can decide what we want to do,’’ Francona said.
Francona had previously stated he does not see Tomlin in a bullpen role with the Tribe as it would cause too much stress on his arm day in and day out, and that Tomlin would be best served filling in for any spot start that the club may need.

My guess for the Tribe rotation into Atlanta (starting Tuesday) is Masterson, Jimenez, McAllister, Salazar/Carrasco (maybe both) and Kazmir. Would be normal rest for Masterson. Tomlin will be able to help starting with the Mets series at the earliest, and Bauer could get a September call.
