Tribe Weekend Recap: Big crowds leave disappointed, pitching issues, and Dr. Smooth’s anniversary party
July 8, 2013NBA News: Andrew Bynum in town to meet with Cavaliers
July 8, 2013An anonymous email to Tony Rizzo of ESPN Cleveland WKNR claiming the Browns were (again) for sale has been directly disputed by current team owner Jimmy Haslam. Tony Grossi (also of WKNR) was able to get the exclusive word from Haslam, posted yesterday on their site.
Grossi covered it pretty well asking the owner if he could envision “any scenario” in which ownership of the team would change. “Absolutely not,” Haslam said. “We plan on owning the Browns for a long time.”
As I expressed in the podcast this week with Scott Raab, I will always have my doubts about that up to and until Jimmy Haslam appears to be clear of any potential trouble with Pilot Flying J and the continuing legal action there. It seems to me that even if he and his family have no plans, that the NFL – having been blind-sided once – are likely working every contact in their collective Rolodex to make sure they’re on top of it now.
Still, as it sits today, Haslam makes good points about investment in the team, from the rebuilding of the Browns front office, to the physical building in Berea and all the way to reported stadium improvements that are pending city approval. Despite the greatest fears of fans about Haslam’s pending legal issues impacting the team, there’s little to no evidence of that with regard to the team thus far.
As for the team and the game of football itself, training camp opens July 25th and you can expect to see Jimmy Haslam there.

Haslam is doing what he does best: talking. But I’ll only believe what he says when I see proof of it.
Browns talk – woohoo!!!
Wait …
From reading Grossi’s article, it appears Haslam did not use the word “candidly” at all…which makes me wonder if he is being less that candid…aww hamburgers, he’s lying and we’re all screwed. WHY GOD?!?!!? WHY?!!?!
ok, maybe not.
Snap into a Slim Jim biotches!
wahoo?
So the Browns are for sale? I am asking because they only state things in plain English with 100% unequivocality when the opposite is true. (We are NOT drafting a QB! Colt McCoy is the STARTER! Lerner: The Browns are NOT for sale!)
Huh? How can you see proof of him not selling? If he says they are not selling, and sells, then you would not believe what he says
Woof Woof
Just sell shares of the Browns like the packers did
That was the old Browns ya know the last one before this one the new Browns just don’t do rebates!
Good point let me add that to the list: “We are not the same old Browns!” – Banner, Holmgren, Mangini, Savage, Davis.
That is illegal now.
“An anonymous email to Tony Rizzo of ESPN Cleveland WKNR claiming the Browns were (again) for sale”
sweet, I always wanted to start a rumor that forced the owner of a sport franchise to respond. apparently, all we have to do is email Tony Rizzo.

He’s no Tony Grossi that’s for sure!
I’m pretty sure the NFL is watching this and making more of a call than we all recognize – and I have no doubt that a guy that the IRS has nailed bilking the kinds of folks who tend to be NFL fans has a very, VERY short leash. If he’s indicted and the lawsuits build up, there’s no way in Hell the NFL lets Haslam keep the franchise.
at least Grossi used to be good 🙂
What an embarrassing show. I can picture Hammer reading it like a little girl. What an embarrassing station period.
lol about all of this
I want to know how excited Varajao is about all of this. We want more photoshops!
It’s plenty easy to make your own, you know.
