NFL News: Jimmy Haslam explicitly states the Browns are not for sale
July 8, 2013Check out this hilarious obituary for a Browns fan
July 8, 2013Cleveland’s interest in free agent center Andrew Bynum and his interest in signing with the Cavs is apparently enough for the former Laker and Philadelphia 76er to come visit. ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that the Cavaliers and Bynum are meeting face-to-face on Monday.
Update on Cavs' pursuit on Andrew Bynum: ESPN sources say Bynum scheduled to be in Cleveland today for face-to-face recruiting sitdown
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) July 8, 2013
Cavs, remember, would only offer one-year deal IF they decide to proceed on Bynum. But they can offer richest one-year deal out there
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) July 8, 2013
Cavs don't want to do anything to cut into 2014 cap space. So one-year deal is as far as they'll go. Mavs remain Bynum's other prime suitor
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) July 8, 2013
The possibility exists that Bynum’s interest in visiting Cleveland is to try and force a multi-year deal from the Dallas Mavericks. It was reported this weekend that the Cavaliers had a “lucrative” one-year offer in place, which Stein reiterates today. Having considerable cap space, the Cavs can offer Bynum roughly $12 million for 2013-14 despite already having reportedly agreed to terms with forward Earl Clark and guard Jarrett Jack. Bob Finnan of Cleveland’s News Herald adds that this number can increase if the team decides to part ways with guard/forward CJ Miles.
Though injured for all of last season, Bynum offers considerable upside along with the risk as he averaged 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 35.2 minutes per night in 2011-12 and is just 25 years old.

This all depends on what our doctors think. If he is healthy, than I would be excited to bring him in.
I chuckle each time I see that he’s a “former 76er” considering all the time he spent practicing and playing with them.
and all it cost was Iggy, Harkless, Vucevic, and another 1st round pick. Whoops.
Yet he refuses to work out for teams – so he can’t be 100%. Plus if he were healthy, he’d be looking for a big multi-year deal. I actually think it benefits him to sign a one year deal to prove himself worthy of a max contract next summer. That is unless his injuries are actually quite bad and he just wants as much $$$ he can get right now and never play again.
My initial thought was meh, 1 year of Bynum at best does nothing but let us spend a few months half-heartedly cheering a mercenary’s quest for huge bucks elsewhere, and at worst just keeps the Clinic docs busy. And lets Grant show Dan he’s not afraid to dream big.
But the more I think about it, the more I think the Cavs have to start winning, right now, no matter the method. Force Kyrie and Dion to start playing games where the opponent takes you seriously. They have to brake the plummet of the lottery mentality, and get everyone accustomed to an upward trajectory and the expectations that come with it. Even if they start doing it with a knucklehead who’s playing hard for his own selfish reasons.
my world has ended. Harv made a grammatical error.
in no way can i agree that it is to his benefit to sign a 1-year deal.
I am not saying it won’t happen, just saying that this guy is a walking meniscus tear, and he will likely break down at some point during the year.
If he happens to break down enough to be out for the year he may very well be in the same boat as Greg Oden. He would be lucky to get 2-years guaranteed at that point.
But what if they play poorly this year because of all the pieces they’ve lost, win the lottery, and get Andrew Wiggings?
Would that count as them ‘winning’ the Dwight Howard trade then?
I agree with your points and add one more: If Bynum gets a taste for winning in Cleveland, and if he is healthy and contributes, he will want to re-sign. If he goes 18/11 and the Cavs get to the 2nd round of the playoffs, he would be happy to come back. If he stinks it up…no biggie – peace out.
With his willingness to hoist up the 3, he’ll be the perfect stretch-5.
If you’re Chris Grant [and assuming Bynum’s on board] why NOT take a 1-year chance on him?
IMO – Even a great draft pool was not going to vault the Cavs to the playoffs alone (and this year wasn’t even a good draft). [Grant’s] job is on the line. Bynum’s future earning power, possibly career would be on the line. And its not like any of the remaining FAs are suddenly gonna flock to CLE
…also, Cavs can insist on a so-called ‘Exhibit 3’ clause which supposedly minimizes the financial risk.
Does it really count as winning if it takes 3+ years? Not in my book. Plus you are assuming that from day one the 76ers would automatically win with Wiggins.
I don’t think the guy is about winning eventhough he played for the Lakers.
I’m skeptical but I’m sure the Cavaliers will protect themselves as far as the contract goes anyways. They could use another big man anyways. If Bynum can play and provide anything it’s a plus anyways. The problem with Bynum isn’t just his injury issues. It’s his mental issues as well. Anyways it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
That’s a lot of pressure, dude. Hate you for making me read my own comment, and for not being able to find it when I did.
Dude, did you, really need to use a comma, after the word, comment? (Captain James Tiberius Kirk was here!)
and i wasn’t about girls until i kissed my first one…
Yea but why did you wait until you were 30? đ
On a 1 year deal, you would get his absolute best since he is playing for the next contract. His best might not be what it used to be, but I’d pay $12M to find out. No matter what, this is a 1 year rental. He’ll bolt next season if he’s great.
$8-10M is as high as I’d go even with all of that Horseshoe Casino money.
When I read Shammie I usually think of Captain James Joyce.
what if Orlando plays worse despite having those pieces (or even slightly better) and they get Wiggins? oh, the agony.
(and will the NBA still fix the draft to gift-wrap Wiggins to Boston with Stern stepping aside? joking….joking)
Oh definitely. Boston will get Wiggins, LA Lakers with get Jabari Parker, and the 76ers/Mavericks will get Julius Randle. Then Stern can leave happily knowing that all of the big market teams will be set to prosper for the next decade.
Don’t kiss up to me now! I like how you think. Boston gets Wiggy wit it in 2014!
Say, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
what happens to his beloved Knicks when Melo skips town (to join Lakers & Jabari) and they are stuck with Amare?
because waiting until you are 40 like AC Green is just too long?
They’ll trade for Omri Casspi, who’ll then go on to put up 25-5-5 stat lines every season for the next decade.
always wondered why Casspi didn’t get the “Wade-treatment” from the refs. Stern did get him on that Sprite commercial though.
Based on that logic, does that mean the Cavs didn’t ‘win’ the Baron Davis to the Clippers trade? It’s taking the Cavs more than 3+ years with Kyrie to do much…
Casspi couldn’t do that in the Jerusalem summer league!
So far not so good!
If you believe that I got some Cleveland Browns seasons tickets to sell ya!
I think Captain Lou Albano.
Rubberband man!!!!!
“brake the plummet ”
ok, so maybe you could call it a spelling error (most likely an autocorrect error)
no, I wrote what I meant. As in hit the brakes.
2 men in dispute = THUNDERDOME! 2 men enter 1 man leave.
On the other hand, Cleveland always tends to be the team being used for leverage to get a deal the free agent really wants. Bears mentioning…
oh good. then my faith in humanity is restored. pardon me. carry on
Shaun Livingston to Brooklyn.
but we might be pursuing the JIMMER!
http://tracking.si.com/2013/07/08/jimmer-fredette-trade-kings/
No thanks. Not for basketball reasons, but if he comes here the locals will likely give him more love than Dion, for all the wrong reasons.
Is this a good thing?
Don’t worry the legendary Daniel Boobies Gibson’s legacy will live on as one of the biggest stiffs to ever play for the Cavaliers!
perhaps you didn’t detect the sarcasm?
positives: great spot-up shooter
negatives: the rest of his game
honestly, he wouldn’t be a bad 10/11th guy on the team (just a random guy to throw out there to shoot when noone else is hitting anything), but that’s about it.
This makes my heart sad although we all knew he wasn’t going to be back with the Cavs after they signed Jack.
Jack is an upgrade over Livingston for me.
Wait is that sarcasm about the sarcasm? Jimmer could be a poor man’s JJ Redick for the Cavaliers especially if they signed Bynum and Bynum actually played.
For me too, although I still wish there was a spot for Shaun if he were actually willing to be the 12th man on a roster (which was never happening, particularly in Cleveland). I loved his defense and his ability to post up smaller guards (which was almost all of them).
or as a reasonably productive guy for a second round draft choice. Which is how I view him.
