Tribe Rallies, Blows It Late On Costly Error
June 16, 2013Pluto: Joe Banner Saving Cap Room For Upcoming Extensions
June 16, 2013After last night’s game where fans saw first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher rotate and move his left shoulder around uncomfortably after a fifth inning at-bat, word came after the game that Swisher’s discomfort in that shoulder could land him on the disabled list, per Paul Hoynes of the Plain Dealer.
“I’m grinding guys,” said Swisher. “I want to be in there every day regardless of what I got going on. Obviously, it’s starting to physically show a little bit.”
Swisher missed time earlier in the season because of shoulder soreness.
“I’ve been battling this shoulder thing the whole year. It’s super frustrating for me because I’ve never had something like this,” he said. “Either way, we have to figure out what is going on and then we will go from there.”
As Hoynes points out in the article, Swisher is mired in a horrific slump at this time. If he goes on the disabled list, expect Lonnie Chisenhall to make a return from Columbus, where he has been hitting the cover off the ball (.386 average, 1.128 OPS in 26 games). In that scenario, Mark Reynolds would likely become the primary first baseman. Swisher is hitting .237 with 7 homers, 24 RBI, and a OPS of .739.

Gomes should be in the lineup at least three times a week until he proves otherwise, especially if Swish is DL bound.
If Swish goes to the DL, and we bring up Chiz, our lineup will still be manageable, at least over the next two weeks…
Bourn-CF
Aviles-SS
Kipnis-2B
Brantley-LF
Santana-1b/DH
Reynolds-DH/1b
Chiz-3B
Gomes-C
Stubbs/Raburn-RF
We can win with this lineup
Need to keep winning the series. Should be a good one against th red hot royals. Would be really nice to take 5 of 7 from the CWS and Minn.
Swishy just wanted more time with his newborn baby girl is all!
Honestly the way Swishy had been swinging it this probably isn’t the worst time for a DL stint. Hopefully that will cure his ails until then like you posted there are a multitude of options. I like Santana as part time 1B but also part time DH just to get Yan Gomes in the lineup. More for his glove, arm and most importantly ability to work with the SP. It looks like Gomes and Kluber have a great dynamic working.
George Brett has inspired the young Royals with cheese it appears. The Indians need to beat up on both the White Sox and Twins. In particular Chicago which has not been playing well. Best thing going for them is Chris Sale and if 14 punch outs couldn’t get him a victory.
I think Santana is lackadaisical defensively and is a very streaky hitter. He would be a primary DH with time at C/1B if Giambi wasn’t on the team. However, there should be a 3rd catcher if Santana DH’s more often. Case in point: the middle game in Tampa.
I agree about Santana I also don’t think he calls as good a game as Gomes probably does too. I don’t think they have to waste a spot on a third catcher even if Giambi is in the lineup. He only plays a few times a week really.
