NBA News: Cavs to have $19 million in cap space this summer
June 8, 2013While We’re Waiting…Trading for Aldridge, scouting Desmond Bryant, and more thoughts on attendance
June 9, 2013The Indians announced today that Zach McCallister has been placed on the 15 day disabled list, and that Carlos Carrasco has been recalled from AAA Columbus to start Saturday vs. Detroit.
“McAllister has been battling right middle finger soreness his last several starts and begins his first career stint on the Major League DL. So far in 2013 he is 4-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 11 starts (65.2IP, 68H, 25ER, 22BB, 45K). He is eligible for reinstatement on June 18.
Carrasco has spent most of the season in the rotation at Triple-A Columbus where he has gone 2-0 with a save and a 3.21 ERA in 10 games/9 starts (47.2IP, 40H, 19R/17ER, 14BB, 50K, .225AVG). His 3.21 ERA currently ranks 11th in the International League as he has limited left-handed batters to a .165 (13-79) average against. He made one start for Cleveland on April 9 vs. New York-AL (3.2IP, 7H, 7R/ER) after opening the season in the big league rotation. He will start today’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.”
Much of the Tribe’s early season success can be attributed to the work of Zach McCallister on the mound. McCallister went at least 5 innings in his first 10 starts this year, before being knocked out in the 4th inning of his last start vs. Tampa Bay.
Carrasco will face off against the Tigers’ Rick Porcello. Porcello has struggled this year with a record of 2-3 and a 5.21 ERA.

Isn’t he supposed to be suspended? Again?
Must have filed an appeal, which buys him a start and possibly (but not likely) reduces the suspension.
His last start may have been a disaster, but his stuff was electric and he was throwing real hard. If he gets his head screwed on straight he’s gonna be successful.
I wish he had been suspended before he ever was able to throw a pitch yesterday! But yes, he’ll be suspended.
