MLB News: Indians recall Scott Barnes; designate David Huff for assignment

The Indians announced today that they have recalled LHP Scott Barnes from AAA Columbus-

“Barnes begins his third stint (April 28, May 5-9) with Cleveland, posting an ERA of 4.50 in 3 relief outings to date with the Indians (4.0IP, 1H, 2R/ER, 2BB, 4K, .077AVG). With Columbus this season he is 2-2 with a 5.74ERA in 12 games, all in relief (15.2IP, 14H, 10ER, 8BB, 19K, .255AVG). He is averaging 10.9 strikeouts per 9.0IP with the Clippers and has limited Triple-A left-handed hitters to a .222 (4-18) average against.”

David Huff is out of options and will likely clear waivers. Whether the Tribe wants him back is another question entirely. The Indians have Brett Myers currently on a rehab assignment, plus Carlos Carrasco and Trevor Bauer at Columbus.

If only we had another starter or two. Then we could use Scott Kazmir.

If he clears they’ll probably bring him back to AAA. There’s a lot of season left and they probably don’t have that many bullpen arms ready to make the jump just now.
