Indians News: Scott Barnes Recalled, Ezequiel Carrera DFA, Bourn To Start Rehab

The Indians made a move to add some bullpen assistance with Vinnie Pestano currently day-to-day with elbow soreness. Left-handed reliever Scott Barnes was recalled, and he took Ezequiel Carrera’s roster spot.

Barnes pitched in one game this year for the Indians, completing one inning of work and allowing two runs last week. Last season, he worked 16 games (19 IP) and had an ERA of 4.26, allowing 17 hits, 7 walks, and 16 strikeouts.

Carrera was claimed off waivers earlier this week from the Philadelphia Phillies, where he was 1-for-13 on the campaign. He played in both Friday and Saturday’s games, recording two hits and one RBI in four at-bats. The Indians have ten days to trade, release, or outright him to the minor leagues should he clear waivers.

The move would seem to indicate that outfielder Michael Bourn is close to returning to the active roster. Bourn last played on April 14th, but he is reportedly going to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A Columbus tomorrow.

If you’re carrera are you happy or frustrated? Clearly at least one team thinks you’re useful to have around sometimes… but only when really needed.

Must be awkward to come in and outof a clubhouse like that for both him and these guys he has known a while.

Pretty pumped that my work is having our annual Clippers game outing this evening and it coincides with Bourn starting his rehab. Add that to dime-a-dog night and you can’t ask for much more.
