April 16, 2013MLB News: Indians call up second baseman Cord Phelps
April 16, 2013As we wait to hear official word from either Pilot Flying J or investigators at either the FBI or IRS, there might finally be some real information about why the headquarters was locked down yesterday. Carly Harrington, a reporter from knoxnews.com, tweets a couple of updates reportedly from the company itself.
Pilot Flying J: "The investigation appears to revolve around the application of rebates to a small group of PFJ trucking company customers."

@slyfox00007 I am not speculating. That's a direct comment from the company. Hence the quotation marks ..

Admittedly, I know nothing of Carly Harrington and her reliability, but her name is attached to the stories about Pilot Flying J on Knoxnews.com over the last two days.
Even as we now might be getting a glimpse into the story, it’s really hard to figure out what the purported crime might be. Did Pilot show preferential treatment to a few companies? It’s still far too open-ended to know exactly what this all could mean.

Is “rebates” another word for “kickbacks”?
Are kickbacks illegal in the private sector, or are they like a rewards program?
We need Garry O to sort this out for us.
I’d speculate that this opens up the possibility that the IRS/FBI are actually going after the trucking companies, and not PFJ. Which would be good news as it relates to the stability of the Browns.
Or a complaint by a trucking company left out of a special arrangement complaining to the FBI and IRS? I’m out of my depth when it comes to laws like this.
Two thoughts: 1. From her tiny picture, Carly Harrington appears easy on the eyes, so I believe whatever she says. 2. Whatever Flying J did or did not do to truckers, rebates, or its slurpee machines has no genuine bearing on the Browns or the city of Cleveland. Tangentially this hoopla may affect Haslam but probably does not indict him in any way.
When are these companies going to learn. Rebates carry incredibly complex tax ramifactions and require incredibly deft handling. Billion dollar companies have simply got to stop leave the bating process up to amateurs and hire an MBA (or Master of Bating Administration)
When I die and God asks me whether I used my time wisely on earth I can’t decide if I’ll go with the shoulder shrug and ask “I know what I think, but I’d like your thoughts, the mumbling voice trail off, the stone silence in hopes he thinks I’m deaf, or simply look for the down elevator.
Carly is a reliable writer for the KNS. (I am a Knoxville Browns Backer who reads the KNS everyday)
Does this mean they are going to refund fan tickets for the past years of ineptitude
I’m guessing this has a lot to do with why he went back to work there…

Carly is cute enough that I’d listen to her preach from the phone book
