Hoping the Indians used the rain to regroup
April 12, 2013Casual Friday – Cooking and running with Denny – WFNY Podcast – 2013-04-12
April 12, 2013The draft (otherwise known as the biggest day in Cleveland football) is just two weeks away. We’ve partnered again with our friends at GV Art and Design to bring you a couple of new shirts for the occasion.
To honor the occasion, we are giving away one of these shirts today.
All you need to do to enter is leave a comment telling us who you want the Browns to select with their first round pick and why. That’s all.
One entry per household please. Looking forward to your responses!
Also a reminder, we are going to be co-hosting a draft party on Thursday, April 25th at Gillespie’s Map Room downtown. Details are here. Plan to be part. We will be giving away stuff. Plus food and good company. Winner, winner pizza dinner.

Dee Milliner. CB is the biggest weakness on the team (next to general manager).
If he’s there… I’d hate to watch us draft anyone over taking Geno Smith. We Cleveland fans have long yearned for our franchise QB and have rarely had the opportunity to take the best QB on board. The idea that you won’t take anyone because they’re not as good as last years or next years is the same mentality that has caused the Browns the decade we just had. Take the best QB… add him to a backfield that includes Trent Richardson and let this young team grow for the next 5 seasons!
Dee Milliner. He is a freak athlete and just thinking about him and Joe Haden paired up for the next few years gets me pumped. Plus he will help keep Buster Skrine off the field which is a huge plus for me.
I would be open to trade down to add a second round pick. If not Dion Jordan, or Jarvis Jones. I think we need an outside linebacker to make an impact. We can pickup a CB and OG later.
Dee Milliner. We absolutely need another corner.
Even though I’d love to see the Browns draft Warmack and have an offensive line that would absolutely maul opponents for the next decade, I’d rather the Browns address the greater need at secondary and draft Milliner.
I think the need at CB2 needs to be addressed. I would like to see Milliner or Leon Sandcastle drafted if they are available.
Dee Milliner — I think Dion Jordan is toward the top of the Browns’ board, but I don’t see him making it to the 6th pick. I have him going in a DL-heavy top 5. Milliner fills an important weak spot on the CLE defense. And as Milliner has (not-so-modestly) noted himself, Haden+Milliner would make one of the best CB tandems in the league. If Milliner goes earlier, then their next option(if he’s there) is likely Geno Smith. If he’s gone, then I think they trade down and go for another CB or LB. That’s my take. One thing’s for sure, this is one of the most difficult-to-predict drafts I’ve seen the past few years. Going to be an interesting draft day.
Dee Millner. Tired of hearing all the whiners talking about how badly we need a CB2. Not the best reason, but I own it.
Best player available, outside of offensive tackle and running back. Who do I hope that is? I haven’t done a ton of reading on the draft, but I’m leaning Milliner. He certainly has the athleticism, and if the scouts think he can cover as well as Haden, it seems like a safer bet that he’ll be a stud performer, as compared to a DL/OLB who has never played the 3-4 before. Recent memory shows a lot of misses on pass rush prospects.
If we don’t trade down: Jarvis Jones. Electrifying defensive presence. gets to the QB. played in the SEC. led everyone in sacks. That’s my dude.
otherwise, i would love to see a trade-down that makes sense.
is Jeremiah Pharms out of prison at the moment?
If Dee Milliner is off the board (and there is a fair chance he will be), they should trade down and try to grab a 2nd Rd pick. Then pick-up either Desomnd Trufant (CB-Washington) or Kenny Vaccaro (S-Texas). Not to mentioh the intrigue of Tyrann Mathieu if he’s still there in the 3rd with the 68th overall.
Kal-El.
Fast. Strong. Can flat out fly. Etc., etc., etc.
Dee Milliner if he is there if not try and trade back n grab Kenny Vaccaro or Tayvon Austin
Ok, here we go:
Step1: 2 OTs are taken (likely Joeckel and Fisher)
Step2: Bidding war for last “elite” OT (Lane Johnson)
Step3: Arizona panics and gives us the Reverse-Winslow (2nd round pick for 1 spot upgrade)
Step4: Minnesota desperate for an elite DT and with picks to spare gives up #23, ’14 1st round pick, and their 3rd round pick to trade up for Star Lotulelei
So, the Browns with the #6 overall pick select:
#23 Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
#38 Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky
#83 Gavin Escobar, TE, SD State
+1st round 2014 pick from Minny in the bank
What could go wrong?
why would we want Nic Cage’s kid?
Not Cage’s kid. Brando’s kid. Or even Crow’s kid.
if the supposed best QB is Alex Smith, then do you find your franchise QB by drafting him?
If Milliner is there we have to take him!!!
Jor-El never cut off his own face and had it reattached later.
Dee Milliner. He’s not a reach at #6 and he fills our biggest need. Also seems like he wants to be here.
Dee Milliner. Secondary absolutely needs improved. Joe needs help!
That’s one hell of a panic from ARZ, I know we did that too, but that was ten years ago, the NFL has the point chart now. Don’t think they would give up more than a 3rd but I love the idea. Even if we take Milliner at 7
The only team who trades up one spot is the Cleveland Browns so BAM, your plan HE GONE!
No that was someone else!
Browns trade down and grab Kenny Vaccaro with their selection. Because that would be magnificent.
I want the Browns to trade Brandon Weeden to the Indians to obtain their first round pick and shore up our pitching staff. Then I’d like to see us draft Dee Milliner to shut down the passing game and use the 2nd first round pick to draft Geno.
If he’s there for us, Ziggy Ansah is my top choice. In a draft without a “sure-fire” star at the top, it makes sense to take a guy who is a physical freak without a ceiling. He wouldn’t need to start on year one thanks to all the other linebackers we have on the roster these days, and he could be an absolute terror for opposing offenses.
Xavier Rhoades – CB – Florida State. 6th pick will be traded to SD or MIA for their pick plus a fourth rd this year and second rd next yr.
I am on board for Mathieu. Especially since Cribbs in gone now.
the NFL had the point chart since the early 90’s (JimmyJ)
{and I know it’s extremely unlikely and pretty far-fetched. but, the question wasn’t what was likely 🙂 }
and THAT’S when the hood is yanked from Hidden Mike’s head, he yelps in pain as the tape is ripped from his lips, yet slowly rises to his feet and throws up his arms in triumph to thunderous media applause, a single tear of redemption moving slowly down his cheek.
Best, Draft Day. Ever.
Draft Milliner and leave both CBs on an island so everyone else can be used to attack from any/every direction.
I want to win!!!
I also would be happy with any number of picks. I suppose it starts with Milliner. I’d also be content to trade down and pick up a 2nd round selection. The middle of the draft is stronger than the top, so this might be the best option.
i would like the browns to select jonathan moxon because although he is only one man he has the ‘mox’ the browns need to triumph over evil
Dee Milliner. Having another shut-down corner will give our D-line enough time to get to the QB. Plus, have you seen his comments after visiting with the Browns? This kid is pumped to be across from Joe Haden.
Xavier Rhodes. Trading down from 6 and picking up a 2nd rounder. Get some.
I want the Browns to trade down (hopefully with the Dolphins) and take Dee Milliner at 12. This seems like a stretch currently, but you never know, isn’t the point of being a Browns fan being an optimist?
For those interested, my blog on what I think the Browns should do and why (with more info): http://wilsssoooonnn.com/2013/04/02/in-the-2013-nfl-draft-the-cleveland-browns-should/
Dion Jordan. That athleticism and speed would do wonders for the middle of the field. It would take pressure off of some of the other linebackers.
I’d like to see the Browns trade down to #12 and take Vaccaro, then grab Tyler Wilson in the 2nd, Jordan Poyer in the 3rd, and Ty Powell in the 4th.
Jones or Milliner.
No proving you’re the smartest guys in the room once the draft commences. You have needs, and there are a few excellent prospects to fill them. Mike, you haven’t been on the clock in a long time, stay calm and trust the board the scouts helped you create. Banner, you’re not a personnel guru, sometimes the smartest use of power is knowing when not to use it – trust the board. If you don’t have a second rounder by draft day, this draft can’t be a home run. Hit a double down the line. Or a single up the middle. You’re not the smartest personnel guys there. Don’t go all Mangini.
Ha. That call back brings a simultaneous smile and a shudder.
Milliner. Having a defensive backfield with two lockdown corners would really improve the entire team. It would force teams to run the ball more, and if we can stop that, we have a heck of a defense!
Gotta be Dee Milliner. Give Weeden another chance to succeed with this new offense. His athleticism is off the charts, and paired with Haden that makes a terrifying tandem for opposing QBs.
If Sandcastle is available, there’s no way they can pass him up. Kid can play.
trade out of #6 to the mid-first round – maybe with the Rams who have 2 1st round picks – (picking up a 2nd round pick) and pick Chance Warmack. Probably take a CB with that 2nd round pick. Xavier Rhodes, Johnathan Cyprien, Eric Reid could all be available.
I want Milliner. The defense is so close to being really really good. The rest of the draft we can concentrate on the offense.
It has to be Milliner. Best player at the biggest need
If Dee Milliner is still on the board, he has to be the pick. If he’s gone by then, look for a trade down and probably the top pass rusher on the board. Hopefully trading down will net us at LEAST a second rounder in which case look for the best defensive back on the board with that one.
