Mingo: A lifelong dream to play for a city that loves football

I’m very excited. I’m a national football player, it’s a lifelong dream. Now, I get to play for a team and city that loves football. Coming from my visit and sitting with coach Horton, he informed me of the tradition of the organization and how much the fans love their city. It really made me want to play there. […] My goal is to be starting week one and help win games. That’s what they are bringing me in here for and that’s what I’m committed to doing.

— Cleveland Browns first-round draft selection Barkevious Mingo, via conference call shortly after being selected sixth-overall. Mingo is a highly-athletic edge rusher who will play outside linebacker in the team’s 3-4 defensive scheme.

Sounds good, man. Now bring the pain! Nothing makes us happier in Cleveland than seeing Roethlisberger, Flacco, or Dalton flat on the ground. Make it happen, and we’ll get long just fine.

    Welcome to Cleveland Mr. Mingo.

    We’re watching you…

Very nice, Mingo, sure. Hope Coach Horton now breaks the news that it gets cold up north in late season, real cold, and no one wants to see you shivering by the heaters looking miserable when you’re supposed to be scowling.

Here’s your Cleveland starter kit with a ton of goodies. The scissors is to cut off your jersey sleeves, and the tray of pierogis is to start getting some meat on those bones. Doesn’t matter how fast you run, son, with that little girly waist you’re going to bounce right off Big Ben. And, uh, a list of decent player hangouts. You absolutely do not need Craig’s List for female attention in Cleveland, son, we still have no idea what’s wrong with that guy.

Loved how he said he expects to work himself into Canton. Barkevious, you put up the numbers and we’ll make the loudest possible ruckus to ensure you don’t get left out 🙂

Be mean, Barkevious. Just be mean, and nasty, and terrifying. That’s what we want. Get after the QB, and this city will love you

Concidentally, its my dream to root for a player who plays for the team that I root for who has also has dreamed of playing for a team like this.. Because we love football.

Not to sound skeptical but this seems exactly like what an agent would tell a player to say. And yet, if there is 1% of truth in this quote then we are in for a fun few years. Also, gotta love hiring a coach that was a Browns fan and understands the football culture of the city.

Since leaving Cleveland to attend school I have realized what a unique place this city is and how badly it deserves a good football team. I know I’m preaching to the choir on this page, but hey its always fun to be a Browns fan!
