NFL Free Agency: TE Fred Davis considering Cleveland, Washington

This morning the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that tight end Fred Davis is deciding between the Browns and the Washington Redskins.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported that the Browns have “serious interest” in the former Washington tight end-

Davis was injured in the Redskins’ 7th game of the season, rupturing his Achilles tendon. According to the Washington Post back in February, Davis is ahead of schedule in his rehab.

Davis is a Toledo, Ohio native who has had some success with the Redskins. His best year was 2011, in which he caught 59 passes for 796 yards and 3 touchdowns. For his career, Davis has caught 155 passes for 1,973 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Davis is 27 years old, and would easily be the best receiving TE on the Browns roster should he choose Cleveland.

I would like this move assuming he looks fine coming back from a ruptured achilles.

Paulsen wasn’t bad last year, so if the Skins are after Davis, then they really want him back (and that speaks well for his recovery as well as it was their staff). I hope we get him.

Is he that much better than Ben Watson?

  • Vindictive_Pat

This year, probably not. 3 years from now, I think so.

Always liked him. Health being a question, I’m a little more worried.

59 rec for 880 yards and 4 TD’s… catching passes from Jason Campbell? Those stats sound pretty impressive to me. Let’s see what he can do in Chud’s “vertical” offense. This kid was pretty highly rated coming out of USC, during their dynasty years.

He’s also 5 years younger than Ben Watson

Ben Watson = the new Saint Lawrence Vickers.

he and Gocong can be rehab buddies
