Cleveland Browns will cooperate with Kevin Costner movie about team

Everyone’s all abuzz about the Kevin Costner movie news that has him playing the GM of the Cleveland Browns. I don’t think I’m breaking any rules by telling you that it’s been one of the most popular posts on this site the last few days in terms of traffic.

Now, there’s word that the Browns will be cooperative with the production. Nate Ulrich interviewed Alec Scheiner today and among the revelations in that Q&A to be posted later, Scheiner says of the production that “it’s good for the NFL. It’s good for the Browns. It’s good for Cleveland.”

Alec Scheiner is the Cleveland Browns President which means he’ll be one of the most influential members of the Browns organization. Most can’t stop thinking about Joe Banner, and for good reason, but ultimately Scheiner might have more influence over Browns fans’ interactions with the team than any other person in Berea.

Scheiner is responsible for many things from the newly formed analytics department, to even more things related to the business of the Browns, not the least of which is the game-day experience. Remember that as a member of the Cowboys organization, Scheiner oversaw a great deal of the “Jerry-dome” stuff including its construction, financing and marketing.

Now he’ll also help shape the view of the Browns and Cleveland through the lens of a Kevin Costner movie production.

This joke brought to you by me… on yesterday’s post.

this was only a little funny the first time….

I plussed this myself. I couldn’t help laughing at how dumb it would be the second time, so I reposted.

Lombardi pushes away from laptop, spins in chair, throws arms up in triumph and whoops. “I always knew it would be either Brad Pitt or Costner. And just last year I didn’t have a legit job”

  • At first I wasn’t keen, but I think it’s great to breath a little lifeblood into the org (along with the Travel Channel show). All we’ve been known for in the national spotlight is negative (i.e. draft busts and languishing in perpetual 4-12 seasons). The movie premise (as hookie as it may be) is trying to restore a down and out team to its once greatness. At the very least would be positive to remind people of the Browns glory.

Banner plops down in Lombardi’s visitor’s chair, props his feet up on Lombardi’s desk, and says, “How great is this? I hope they get Nicholson to play me. Chud’s lobbying for Vince Vaughn for the coach’s part. Ha ha ha, suck it Chip Kelly.”
