February 25, 2013MLB News: Indians’ OF Michael Brantley leaves game with laceration; gets stitches
February 25, 2013The Browns have been connected to free agent WR Mike Wallace in the rumor mill, but Lane Atkins of the Orange and Brown Report states that the Browns are unlikely to use upwards of $10 million dollars of their cap space on one WR.
Enter Steve Breaston. The former Chiefs WR is drawing interest from teams, including the Steelers and the Browns–
“NFL.com’s Aditi Kinkhabwala reported that Breaston is set to visit the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, according to a source apprised of the free-agent wide receiver’s schedule. ProFootballTalk reported Breaston is meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.”
Breaston is a 29 year old receiver/kick returner. His best season was in 2008 working opposite Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald where the trio all caught passes for over 1000 yards. Breaston has 3387 yards receiving in his six year career. He has 9 career touchdown receptions.

I’m sure WFNY will keep us a-Breast of this situation.
edit: a-Breast on this situation
He’d most likely be the slot receiver I would think if signed. The move wouldn’t thrill me but he’d be alright I guess.

Wait a minute . . . doesn’t this guy have “a New York essence”??????
Breaston is from Pittsburgh… but they have very little FA money to play with.
boooooo…actually, I see what you did there +1
he also played for Haley and Pitt may lose Emmanuel Sanders who plays the same role as Breaston (though is younger but much more unproven)
It works on so many levels.
It’s the ol’ rope-a-dope. Not that I’m suggesting that . . . no . . . I would never do that . . . why I never!
Just what we need.. Another #2 or #3 WR..
it’s sort of an underlying message to Cribbs though. Breaston is a returner who can play WR.
Didnt this guy get the message? Folk in this town just dont cotton to no Michigan feller playin WR for our team.
This move could only be regarded as adding depth which would mean saving a mid round draft pick for another need. We have Gordon and Little as our 1-2. Not many free agents that would be a significant upgrade to that duo. The problem is that the drop off after those two is pretty steep.
a professional-type role-modeling WR would be nice, but a little ways down the shopping list.
Speaking of things that would be nice if the roster were more solid, was watching a bunch of Tavon Austin. Holy crap, he’s going to make some OC very, very happy. That pure speed mixed with full-speed cutting ability is about once or twice a decade stuff.
I understand that but why can’t we upgrade instead of replace?
if you upgrade a secondary position, then you are not likely to keep the other piece due to roster size, etc.
i don’t know that i like the move though. Breaston should help out more as a WR, but he’s not as good at returning and I don’t even know if he covers kicks. i think i’d rather keep Cribbs (though they may just be using Breaston as leverage – we’ll see).
Wonder how much this will cost them. Some WRs have looked great at the Combine, so that might be a cheaper and younger alternative. But if Breaston can play the slot, I’m on board
Heyoo!
Go Blue!!
I understand what you’re saying. My point is why try to “replace” Cribbs who was never really a receiver in the first place. I think with Gordon & Little you have two solid starters, maybe big contributes after the offense gets solidified. I think you gotta get someone who is atleast as good as those two with hopefully some experience. In an ideal situation we have WR1 – ?, WR2- Gordon, Slot/3 – Llittle OR WR1 – Gordon, WR2 – ?, Slot/3 – Little
