I’m Kyrie: Irving makes history on 40-point night
January 23, 2013Buckeyes Survive Late Press From Iowa
January 23, 2013According to new Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski, Norv Turner will be calling the plays as offensive coordinator for the team.
Chudzinski said, “Norv’s been one of the best playcallers in the league for a long time,” when asked about the decision. Chud went on to say that he needs to recognize the abilities of the coaches around him and he feels confident that Turner will do a great job.
That’s good news for Browns fans who were wary of Pat Shurmur over the last few years going without a coordinator completely in year one and preferring to continue to hide behind his laminated play sheet again in season two. It will still be up to the newly named Chud to manage the game effectively, but if he falters in that realm, at least it won’t be the easiest and most obvious criticism to lob first about him trying to do too much.
Stay tuned to WFNY for all the updates from the Norv Turner press availability today.

This is great news!!
and there was much rejoicing!
Frees up Chud to run the entire team, thank you. I can get behind this 100%!
the only way this can be better news is if Pat Shurmur gets to call plays for the Eagles
Having quickly polished off the stack marked “Duh,” Chud grabbed the next pile, marked “Not So Easy Decisions.”
Is Norv’s pressed gonna be on tv?
It’s official…as weird as it is to say I am more comfortable with our trio coaching staff than I would have been with Kelly and whomever they would have dug up as his O coordinator.
Now if we can just lock Lombardi in a broom closet to let Spytek and Sandusky run the draft with the coaching staff…we might be okay.
Two of the most important qualities of a great leader are 1) surrounding yourself with quality people, and 2) knowing how/when to delegate to those people
Mr. Chudzinski, you have passed the first test.
Chicks dig the long ball…
Can we assume that Norv’s playbook does not include the dreaded 4-yard pass pattern on 3rd and 6? Is that too much to hope for?
every team’s playbook includes those. it’s just that most don’t have comeback routes to 4yds đ
Why is there a picture of Weeden smiling on the top of that pile?
When Kelly was interviewing for the Browns, he said he wanted Shurmur to be the OC….it was then that the brass decided to move on
/me does his I’m so happy dance… Family looks at me like I’m crazy!
Isn’t turning over playcalling duties to Norv passage of the second test?
Should be on STO but I’m guessing the replay will definitely be on “All Bets Are Off” this afternoon on STO.
Makes sense and a huge positive if you ask me.
Sure. He’s 2 for 2 then.

Banner: So Chip, who were you thinking of bringing in to coordinate this unreal offense you’ve just explained to us?
Kelly: Obviously I don’t know a ton of people in the NFL, so I am hoping you will keep Pat around?
Banner: Waiter….CHECK PLEASE!
As long as it does not include Mr. Phillip Rivers….then it’s all good!
You mean this picture?
And how!
Between Kelly and Banner : (Blank stares by Haslem and Banner for 4 hours, with no words spoken or movement)
It is almost like asking a hot girl out to dinner and she asks if she can bring one of her friends and it ends up being a guy
umm, depends on what he costs.
last season was Mr. Rivers worst.
last season Mr. Rivers also had a better year than any Cleveland Brown’s QB since Kosar.
I think the saying is the tallest “little person” is still a little person.
Alex Smith is the more viable veteran IMO for a couple reasons; thrived under Norv, chip on his shoulder, is mobile and has already lost his starting job.
I’d love for once since the return see the Browns with an actual veteran QB who has years ahead of them with a rookie learning. We have failed miserably at grooming QB’s and one of the reasons is we have never had anyone in place to teach the NFL game.
you have officially lost me: Philip Rivers is off the table, but Alex Smith “thrived under Norv” (’06 only year under Norv)?
2006 Alex Smith 2900yds 16TDs 16INTs 6.5YPA 74.8QBrating
2012 Phil Rivers 3600yds 26TDs 15INTs 6.8YPA 88.6QBrating
the only arguments for Alex Smith begin&end with what he did for Harbaugh. he was the consummate game-manager throwing for less than 200yds/game but not turning the ball over and throwing accurately when needed. He’s a stop-gap guy if we don’t like Weeden or any of the college QBs. Not off the table by any means.
I had just assumed Banner would be calling the plays in between picking the players, scowling at each and ever camera he ever sees, and controlling Haslem like Grima controls Theoden in LotR.
(Sorry, drove off a nerd cliff, there.)
Banner doesn’t have a SB ring to call his precious (yet!)
Watched on STO. Best part was the smirk on Norv’s face when Mary Kay Cabot asked about Colt. He looked at Chud like, really…
Yeah “thrived” was definitely a poor choice of words.
Maybe “did well with far less talent than surrounds him now” would have been the better choice.
It’s just that smirk on Rivers dumb face I can’t get passed… Statistics be damned!
If he wins us one, he can fart in my dinner toNIGHT.
(sorry, drove off an 8-year-old pop culture reference cliff, there.)
i cannot stand his attitude either, but i’m desperate for even league average QB play here.
i’d take a flier on Alex Smith if our staff believes in him as a stop-gap guy too. i have less faith that he could deliver though.
Three words: Fix Us Norv!
