NFL News: Browns hire Jacksonville general counsel Sashi Brown
January 13, 2013While We’re Waiting… Buckeyes Take Down #2 Michigan
January 14, 2013What most of Cleveland had hoped was a cruel speculation-based rumor appears to be true: Derek Anderson says that he will be returning to Cleveland to rejoin the man who got him to the Pro Bowl in 2007, Rob Chudzinski.
Per Jeff Schudel of the News-Herald, Anderson was a back-up to Carolina’s Cam Newton and will be facing an expiring contract this coming offseason — he fired off this update on his Facebook page shortly after the Browns announced the hiring of Chudzinski:
“Looks like it is time to make a return to a familiar place for some unfinished business,” Anderson posted on his Facebook page one day after Chudzinski was named Browns coach. “I’d be honored to return to Cleveland to play football if the fans would have me.”
The man they call Chud was the Browns offensive coordinator and Anderson the starting quarterback for 15 games in 2007 when the quarterback threw 29 touchdown passes and passed for 3,787 yards. Chudzinski reportedly influenced the Panthers to sign Anderson as a “tutor” for Newton, last season’s Rookie of the Year.
Upon Anderson’s release in 2009, he went on record to call Cleveland fans “ruthless” and undeserving of a winning football team. Once his comments made national headlines, Anderson would apologize.
Late last week, rumors began swirling surrounding the potential return of Anderson. Neither Chudzinski nor anyone else can comment on Anderson or any potential free agent, however, as the new league year doesn’t begin until March 12.

This offseason was supposed to be a season of hope. A season of being past all of the bad decisions, and working our way towards a better future…Dare i say i am longing for Pat Shurmur? I guess i’ll wait it out.
Feel like Bill Hader in the opening scene of “Pineapple Express.” We’re a mile under the desert floor and I’m trying to figure out why Banner and Chud have put on white coats and are torturing me.
Maybe Chud does “understand” us. This is a perfect bullseye to my fandom groin.
Why? McCoy and Lewis are perfectly fine as backups. Don’t do it Chud.
What’s next? Bring back Kellen and Braylon? Wimbley and Wright? Banner will say “There was alot of interest in DA throughout the league”. The Berea circus lives.
Norv Turner has spent several seasons with Alex Smith. It would be interesting having them reunited this off-season
DA takes his unfinished business real serious.
But wait guys, DA is 4-4 in completing passes during his time at Carolina! Surely he’s a new QB with a new lease on li… hahahahaha, sorry I couldn’t get that out without laughing. Great to see the Browns hopping back in the truck with DA and Punxsutawny Phil… it’s Groundhog Day!
So it’s up to us? Well, I say “no.” Who’s with me?
Ditto
It’s pretty sad when the best case scenario is that you’re hoping Anderson is just trolling the entire city of Cleveland…
that’s not funny. nothings funny.
Somewhere way ,way back in the deep dark recesses of mind there still slight hope that this brain trust is smarter 6then me . Very little hope at this point. The only, and I do mean only, positive is that at least they are not making decisions based on public opinion. But at this point I do wonder if we aren’t smarter than they are.
Is it to early for a drink?
Not bad typing considering my grand daughter was jumping all over me
Hey, hey. I wouldn’t mind Wimbley.
Cleveland…………..
I’m just ruthless.
he has proven to be better than Brady Quinn and Jimmy Clausen as well. Perhaps this signals that we are going to be drafting Tommy Rees to be our QB3!
why shoot so low? let’s start up the Norv is bringing Philip Rivers with him rumors!
So true! I guess DA figures it’s better to still be in the NFL making millions of dollars for the only coach who will hire you than to be hated and booed at home games.
If we bring him back we will not only be undeserving of a winner, we will be sealing the deal!! If Chud wants to give the QB a mentor just hire him as QB coach!
Derek, you can return to Cleveland to play football, the fans will have you. You can even play on Sunday. You may even wear #3 if your heart desires, but you are not going to be a paid employee of the CLE Browns. Your ticket is not only punched, but it has been run through the wash. Yall know how that one goes.
That’s preposterous! The next thing you’re going to tell me is the Cavs are going to try to bring back LeBron.
The best part is he’s younger than Weeden.
This article is hilarious in itself but the comments are even better, well done fellas.
Accurately reflects my reaction upon hearing this news on the radio this morning.
Torturing? If that was torture I wish they’d torture me.. I feel like a piece of butter……. On a big ol stack of flapjacks.
no, he’s older. by a whole 5 months.
Are you the emperor? Cuz he looks pretty jolly.
I think the emperor represents some combination of DA, Chud, Lombardi, and Banner.
The darkest of emperors if ever there was one.
Bring back the coin that Romeo flipped in the 2007 preseason!
I’m getting tired of this.
Campbell, Skelton, Webb, and others say that while we can mock DA (and rightfully so), he is worthy of a backup job somewhere in the NFL. I just prefer it to not be in the city that he openly criticized on his way out the door.
“Sorry son, coin’s retired.” – Harvey Dent
So then Vader is Colt?
Me, Colt, Weeden, Cleveland. Vader represents the lot of us.
No one takes this more seriously than I do.
Take a deep breath, everybody. I don’t want him either, but he’s just getting a tryout. It’s not like he and Chud are going to have a nine-hour dinner.
please, no.
they are bringing in all this old garbage from the past. If you want to bring in guys from the past why don’t you go out and get Belichik?
Oh. Thought it was the Double Wood.
I dunno, I am wondering (and honestly hoping) that he is the product of a very good offensive system employed by one guy named “Chud”. He was absolutely awful in Arizona without the Chudster. There’s no way to know for sure until it happens so this is just a guess, but I think that if Chud doesn’t bring DA to Cleveland that he’ll be out of the NFL before next season starts.
It can’t be April 1 already can it?
I wonder if “try out” isn’t just a formality. DA has been with Chud for 4 of the last 6 seasons… I don’t really know if there is anything new he can show.
Here’s why this could happen – we drafted Wimbley for the 3-4, which he didn’t fit. Then we got rid of him just before we switched to the 4-3 defense that he actually did fit. Now that were switching back to the 3-4 again, it would be a typical Browns move to bring him back.
I’ve never slaughtered no younglings.
Maybe he’s coming back BECAUSE he doesn’t think we deserve a winning team.
Not the Quarterback we wanted but, the Quarterback we deserve?
We are all just ruthless
My thoughts may be unpopular…..but I won’t hold the comments he made in 2009 against him. They were clearly made during an emotional time, and if anything they prove that he was mad about having to leave. Many of us have done the same thing some where in life, and if ours were made public like DA’s it would be embarrassing too.
Now from a football perspective – I think there are better options – unless there was a terrific chemistry developed between him and Newton and that is something he could bring to Weeden in that role. But if it’s to compete as a starter? I’ll pass.
Banner is definitely the emperor. Come on, he looks just like him.
