“On Sunday, Weeden floated, overthrew, underthrew, threw behind and basically resembled an ugly conglomeration of the Ghosts of Browns’ Expansion Quarterback Past. On the surface, it’s clear that Weeden has “regressed”, which seems to be the latest buzzword to describe his performance. Of course, to see such a performance this late into Weeden’s rookie year is a cause for concern. But again, I have to wonder how much of Weeden’s sloppy play is a result of being completely uncomfortable playing in a stilted offensive system.
Mechanics wise, Weeden has looked awkward for probably over a month now. Even during the Browns’ three-game winning streak, Weeden would still make throws with an off-center balance and would even occasionally lift up on his back foot while releasing his throws – something a shorter quarterback might do. The reasons for these disjointed mechanics could be varied – injury, nervousness – but overall are a clear symptom of a quarterback who is not comfortable.” [DK/The OBR]

“He peaked at 3-3 after a 6-3 win over Seattle on Oct. 23, 2011, got himself in colossal trouble with a 1-14 stretch overlapping an ownership change, called in the paramedics for a job-saving 5-3 run, but then came up with a career stinker at the worst possible time.
The talk after Shurmur’s numbing 38-21 home loss to injury-riddled Washington wasn’t so much that it knocked the Browns out of realistic playoff hopes. The talk was how badly Shurmur and his men were outcoached and outplayed by Mike Shanahan’s team.” [Doerschuk/Canton Rep]

Even more opinions on trading Andy– “Schmidt: A. Agree strongly. Embrace a rebuild. Don’t hang on to assets too long. Of course Varejao makes them a better team, but does he make them a playoff team? Obviously not. Sell high and get something in return, be that a pick or a prospect. Whomever they get, he’ll help them in four years more than Varejao.” [Ford/ESPN]

Tracking down the truth about the Lakers’ pick owed to Cleveland in the Sessions trade- “Basically, what happens is that if the Lakers do not make the playoffs, the selection goes to Phoenix, meaning the Cavaliers keep the Miami selection. If the Lakers do make the playoffs and finish with a higher draft selection than the Heat, we have the right to swap the Heat pick with the Lakers’ pick (again, this is ignoring the possibility of the Kings finishing below 13th overall because, let’s be honest, there’s little chance of that), and the Suns will then receive the Heat pick.” [Vecenie/Fear the Sword]

“The 32-year-old Swisher, who spent the past four seasons with the New York Yankees, arrived in Cleveland on Tuesday night and went to dinner with new manager Terry Francona, team president Mark Shapiro and general manager Chris Antonetti. Last week, Antonetti said he intended to add a “corner” outfielder and the Indians are pulling out all the stops to add Swisher.
He and his wife, actress JoAnna Garcia, who is expecting the couple’s first child in May, arrived at Progressive Field at 10:15 a.m. and toured the club’s family room. They were shown a suite and the team’s clubhouse before the Indians tugged at Swisher’s Ohio State connections to convince him Cleveland should be his next baseball home. Swisher played baseball for the Buckeyes.
The Indians played a video on their scoreboard that featured current Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer and basketball coach Thad Matta, who encouraged Swisher to join the Indians. Swisher was moved by the gesture and didn’t expect to see Tressel at lunch in the stadium’s Terrace Club.” [Withers/AP]

Swisher left Cleveland without signing and is now going to Boston, Texas and SF. I think we can stop discussing him now.
And when the custom-made videos and fine meals were over, when Antonetti was done pitching Swisher with the “midwest homecoming” theme, Pat Riley walked in with a smirk wearing his championship rings and wheeling a bankers box-size wallet. They gave each other a quick knowing glance and left the building, arm in arm.
1. If we get Swisher, I’ll eat my Christmas tree.
2. I hate “system” coaches. West Coast offense — humbug! Fit your system to the players, not the other way around. It’s so simple.
3. The fact that Shurmur said he never even considered for one second putting in McCoy last Sunday is even more evidence that he is not head coaching material. Shurmur’s idea of making an adjustment is to stop running the ball when you get 3 points down.
why would putting in a QB he considers worse into a game where we needed to throw more (once we fell behind in the 2nd half) mean he is not HC material?
plenty of other evidence. not running in the 2nd half, halftime adjustments not working at all but sticking with them anyway, not throwing deep until the 4th quarter down big (and even then it might have been because the helmet-radio wasn’t working), etc.
Wisconsin just made a great hire and kicked the Buckeye rivalry up a peg.
Gary Anderson is one of the great college defensive minds. He turned down Colorado and Cal to remain at Utah State, but couldn’t turn down Wisconsin. It kicks the rivalry up a little because Coach Anderson was with Meyer at Utah in his BCS year there.
Worse than Weeden was Sunday? I think not.
Our idiot coach acts like McCoy has never won a game in his life. Can’t wait until he’s gone.
I get the intended humor of this post. But it still made me sick to my stomach.
Why not? He’s had games where he was just as bad and/or worse. If he has not shown that he’s better in practice, then why would Shurmur think he would be better in the game?
Colt is not the answer. Weeden might not be the answer either.
Sam Amico was wrong about something? Shocker.
hey, why not just trade for Ryan Mallet?

(btw, this is currently #1 on my nightmare scenario for the Browns. Hire Lombardi as GM, McDaniel’s as HC and trade for Mallet to be QB? Ugh. Double-Ugh)
The idea is to win the game. I’m not saying McCoy should be the starter. I’m saying he should have replaced Weeden in the second half on Sunday because he stunk. We had no chance with him. McCoy might have got something done/ Weeden wasn’t going to.
Jeez, Warden, how can you be so obtuse?
like throw a 69yd TD pass to Benjamin? 🙂
to be honest, all I care about is winning the Pitt game. Putting Colt into the Skins game ignites a QB controversy (even if he comes in and stinks as badly) and puts more doubt into the offense.
QB controversy? QB contravesty!
(almost wheezes up a lung laughing at homemade joke)
So, is this what w’re reduced to: arguing whether to make an irrelevant QB change while everyone involved this year strolls through the shadow of the valley of death. Where’s that hot tub, to retain a semblance of sanity I need to not look at this team until maybe end of season 2014.
Once again, mg, with your love of incessant bickering and your refusal to concede even the most brilliant of my points, you have broken my will.
I’m going to go away now and take something for my headache.
Agreed it would be more then shocking if he signed here the funny thing is almost any other time he wouldn’t be courted by alot of these other teams. Swisher will go to the bank having hit the open market at the absolute perfect time.
I liked Mallett out of college what’s your problem with him now?
You may have, but I didn’t 🙂
Terrible footwork and bonehead decision making.
I can’t wait for the presser where Swisher, sitting at a table in a high school gym, flanked by his family, reaches for the Indians cap on the table while he slowly announces to the waiting world that he’s going to the “University of . . .,” then deftly switching to the other, different shade of blue cap, “Rangers, Texas.”
Or maybe announcing that he’s “taking his talents to Arlington?”
If we get Swisher, will you live feed the tree feast? I really want to see this, and believe that Antonetti should sweeten the pot with this guarantee.
one of these years our incessant bickering will be whether we want our Steve Young starting or keep Joe Montana instead of this Couch v. Holcomb, Frye v. Anderson, Colt v. Weeden stuff.
I didn’t say “our” incessant bickering, I said “your” incessant bickering. You’re the one who argues constantly. I merely try to help you understand how wrong you are. Don’t you see the difference?
I ask for so little . . .
It’s an 8-foot tree. I may have to go to pay-per-view.
and I was merely implying that one of these years it would be “our” incessant bickering. all I want is to be loved. WHY CAN’T YOU LOVE ME!!!
I think the fact that he visited Cleveland FIRST is the most telling. We are in desperate need of another outfielder, and our contract offer was above his market value. Swisher can now go to other teams and say “Cleveland offered me X, at minimum you need to top that for me to listen any further”, and they most likely will.
Welcome to Rock Bottom.
I’ll have a specialty dark, thanks.
Whoa! Wait a minute! Who called for the street dance/brawl? I didn’t get the message, and don’t even have my tap shoes!
I hate when you guys do this without me. Is the Nerd Signal broken? Sheesh.
It was just one of those things. We didn’t mean for it to happen. It just did.
(What’s beneath Rock Bottom?)
No signal, I was just happening by when I heard a scuffle, look over and there’s these two geniuses trading fours over Beta v. VHS. Can you give them both something to do? I don’t have the energy to monitor them today.
