December 18, 2012Fantastic answers to yesterday’s question! Congratulations are in order to Dave Whittaker who had his comment randomly selected and takes home the autographed photo of Webster Slaughter and Reggie Langhorne, as well as the GV Art shirt! (Lucky!)
Today the contest rolls on, and we are starting to get near the end. Plenty of good stuff still available though!
Just a reminder how the giveaway works. Each weekday we will give away a Cleveland themed prize. To enter, you need only to respond in the comment section in the appropriate manner. The winner each day will be randomly selected and notified by email. (Which means you better make sure that the email address you use to comment here is a legit one.) I cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas. We’ll do our best with the things we have in hand. Only one member of a household can enter each day, and only one winner per household during the length of this contest. Just spreading the love around.
And now today’s contest-
Today we are giving away a pair of tickets to see the Cavaliers play the Houston Rockets on January 5th. We’ll also throw in a WFNY wine and gold t-shirt to wear!
Today’s Question:
We’re going off the board today. I want to know what your favorite holiday meal is. Do you go turkey? Is it a ham? Something else? Tell us about your spread.
Comments must be posted by midnight Cleveland time in order to qualify for the drawing. Check back tomorrow at noon for the results. Remember, only one entry is allowed, but you may still comment to add to the discussion.
Good luck!

The Chickfila chicken nuggets party tray on Christmas Eve. No doubt. We’ve been doing it for approx. 10 years now. Nice way to make everyone happy w/out having people stressed about cooking.
Gotta go with the mixing. Everything right on top of everything else. Mashed potatoes with turkey, corn, gravy, cranberry, green beans, all in one glorious bite.

well, my wife owns a bakery (well, we do, but she’s the baker/cake decorator). so, we get to start each holiday breakfast with the baked goods that people cancel on last minute (w/o fail as she is pulling them out of the oven). this past thanksgiving, it was cinnamon buns and chocolate muffins. mmmmm…
for actual dinner, having a roast on the rotisserie for a few hours and dropping it onto a plate of oven roasted potatoes and carrots and drizzling it all with a small amount sauce (think Worcester meets honey and bbq) is always a good way to go.
Standard Christmas ham with mashed potatoes. The classics are classics for a reason.

My best friend and I got put in charge of Christmas dinner about five years ago for our families and we decided to change it up and do Fajitas. Awesome decision, great meal, have been doing it every year since.
I throw a holiday dinner party every year, and I always make a beef brisket with my homemade rub, a fresh ham, and a sage butter covered bacon wrapped cornbread stuffed turkey, garlic mash, greeen beans and rolls

Breakfast Casserole on Christmas morning. (bread, ham, bacon, eggs, cheese). Almost better than opening presents.

Can’t go wrong with turkey. I find ham vastly overrated and as bland as Pat Shurmur’s play calling.

My grandma, mom, and aunts make homemade cavatelli for Christmas dinner.

I love the ham & deviled eggs & broccoli rice & cheese casserole, but my absolute favorite part is the homemade stuffing my grandpa has been making for as long as I can remember. I usually eat close to 5 pounds of that alone.

Christmas cookies are a meal to me.

This may sound unusual, but homemade pierogies and chop suey on Christmas Eve. If it’s just me I’d buy frozen pierogies due to my very limited cooking expertise. It’s actually pretty good. Christmas is more traditional with a big family get-together of turkey, ham, stuffing, rice stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, etc; and of course talk about our beloved teams.
honey baked ham, sweet potatoes, corn, biscuits

My favorite holiday meal is, first and foremost, one prepared by someone else. If it includes mashed potatoes, it i a hit with me. I prefer the traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, just like Thanksgiving ! We always do shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. FInally, and most importantly, being able to do absolutely nothing after eating it.

Thanksgiving and Christmas is all about the homemade Pumpkin roll and homemade Cinnamon rolls respectively. My family makes them from scratch and I look forward to coming home every year to enjoy these amazing desserts… If we’re talking about non-desserts, I’m going to go generic and pick turkey and mashed potatoes.
I want to know what your favorite holiday meal is. Do you go turkey? Is it a ham? Something else? Tell us about your spread. My favorite holiday meal is super tasty honey glazed ham that someone else had to stand in line for. That with a giant pile of mashed potatoes. Once I am able to breath again, I wander to the dessert table and try to steal all of the kolaches. Then nap time.

In no particular order, our standard Thanksgiving/Christmas meal is and always has been:
Ham
Bourbon Chicken
Baked Beans
Sweet Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Pasta Salad
and Pumpkin Pie
I’m not as big on the hoopla with opening presents, but the meal…that’s Christmas to me.

Personally Ham and Baked Beans always does the trick for me. This year we’re going to skip the cooking all together and get a bunch of Gyro’s from Gyro George (who is open on Christmas). It should be an interesting way to go this year.

Christmas Morning I like to make a Pannetone French Toast using Cointreau and Orange Juice. The bread gets super sloppy soaking in all that liquid. It’s a perfect sweet way to start the Holiday.

We have christmas breakfast and I go to town on some monkeybread. I eat it until my stomach is upset.
We go with:
Beef Tenderloin
Red wine gravy
Twice baked potatoes
Macaroni and cheese
Brussels sprouts
It’s wonderful.

Prime rib.
I’m talking apps and lots of em. not angry birds or google maps, but mini pepperoni rolls, pigs in a blanket, mini-pizzas made on rye toastettes, as well as a salami baked in syrup

I could take or leave the turkey and ham. I love the side dishes. Mashed potatoes, corn casserole, green jello casserole, pumpkin dip, sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, etc. Cannot wait!

For Christmas, it’s honey glazed ham, rolls, and I don’t care what else. Those two are a must, though. A must, I say.

I’m a traditionalist — ham (turkey for Thanksgiving, but I like ham better), mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, stuffing, gravy, and so on. The one thing that’s different is that my aunt thought it would be clever to look up what the Indians and Pilgrims may have actually eaten on the first Thanksgiving. The answer? Almonds and mushrooms, apparently, as well as wild rice. We gave her such a hard time for that, she has naturally insisted on bringing that dish along to EVERY subsequent holiday meal, including Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, you-name-it. It was a joke that got old the first time, but in my family, that’s simply an invitation to keep on doing it.

Anything smothered in gravy
definitely honeybaked ham. It’s more about the experience of going to the honeybake store, being waved in by the cop directing traffic and being shuffled through the line to the whirlwind of activity at the ham counter. I haven’t seen pork fly that fast since the Simpsons! I love how ridiculous the whole experience is.

Gotta be the ham, w gravy of course.

Turkey, used to love ham but it just doesn’t do it for me anymore. Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and rolls, forget everything else. Eat so much that I can’t get up without getting sick, that’s what I call a good holiday dinner!

Spiral cut ham with a cinnamon-honey glaze. It’s so sweet, it’s basically like meat candy.

I actually cook a delicious chicken dish for Christmas that I came up with myself. So good that my vegetarian mom and sister tried it last year because it smelled and looked so delicious!
