December 7, 2012NBA Rookie Rankings: Lillard, MKG take home Rookie of the Month honors
December 7, 2012We are off and running! Congratulations to ThatAlex who was randomly selected in yesterday’s giveaway. He’ll be going to see the Cavs and Lakers next week (hopefully in his new WFNY shirt!) Thanks to all for using the proper format as well, just makes it a little easier on me. As always, feel free to comment on each others’ answers. Love seeing the discussion.
Just a reminder how the giveaway works. For the next 11 weekdays we will give away a Cleveland themed prize. To enter, you need only to respond in the comment section in the appropriate manner. The winner each day will be randomly selected and notified by email. (Which means you better make sure that the email address you use to comment here is a legit one.) I cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas. We’ll do our best with the things we have in hand. Only one member of a household can enter each day, and only one winner per household during the length of this contest. Just spreading the love around.
Let’s get to today’s contest-
The winner today will receive a Wahoo blue and red WFNY t-shirt as well as a Jason Kipnis autographed baseball! The Kipnis ball is an official MLB baseball and comes in a cube holder.
And let me say, these blue shirts from our partners at GV Art and Design are super sharp!
Today’s Question:
Jason Kipnis’ nickname is ‘dirtbag’, a reflection of the way he plays the game with hustle and effort. What current or former Indian is your favorite ‘dirtbag’ for hustle and all out effort on the field?
Remember that to enter you need to 1) re-state the question and 2) answer the question.
Comments must be posted by midnight Cleveland time in order to qualify for the drawing. Check back tomorrow at noon for the results. Remember, only one entry is allowed, but you may still comment to add to the discussion.
Good luck!

Gosh, before he got hurt, it was hard not to be a giant fan of Grady’s effort and hustle on the diamond. It’s just too bad that his #1 attribute was what ultimately led to his demise….let’s hope the same won’t be said for the Kipper.

Casey Blake.
In 2005, I hated Casey Blake. Along with Aaron Boone and Ben Broussard, they were the Killer Bs at the bottom of the lineup that could be guaranteed to kill any rally. Then in 2006, Blake grew a beard and started playing well. As homage to the “evil Spock” from Star Trek who had a goatee, I started referring to 2006 Blake as “Sh****y Casey Blake.”
By that great year of 2007, that just became who Blake was. I loved his willingness to play any position and the calming effect he had in that clubhouse. He’s my one of my favorite all-time Indians.

I’ll never forget seeing Grady Sizemore score from a rundown between 3rd and home in Winter Haven before he got his call up to the big leagues. Not something that goes down in the Indians history book, but let me tell you, it’s one of my favorite memories about the Tribe. Wish he body didn’t give up on him, what a waste.
Also, better odds than winning the Powerball! Woooo!
What current or former Indian is your favorite ‘dirtbag’ for hustle and all out effort on the field?
Dave Burba. I know pitchers aren’t every really called “dirtbags” but Dave Burba had a lot of grit and gave everything he had. He didn’t have the best “stuff” but usually kept the Indians in the game. If he didn’t pitch well he would stick around and talk to the media and take the blame. I think what I liked most is even if he pitched a good game he would still say he pitched liked crap and thought he could have pitched better.
What current or former Indian is your favorite ‘dirtbag’ for hustle and all out effort on the field?
Ray Chapman. Even with the fatal head injury he still tried to walk off the field under his own power.
