Cleveland Browns Game Nine: Winners and Losers
November 5, 2012Pat Shurmur: On squandered opportunities and disappearing goodwill
November 5, 2012There’s just no doubting how great Phil Dawson is at this point, and Peter King has his ticket for the bandwagon.
Twenty-three straight field goals, 21 of them this year, and his consecutive kicks of 32, 28, 29, 33 and 41 in a 32-minute span between the second and fourth quarters gave the Browns a 15-14 lead late against Baltimore. Dawson’s an unsung player, in part because so often his kicks are in losing causes. But a kick’s a kick, and he did his part Sunday against a division rival that owns the Browns.
Phil Dawson. What else is there to say, really?

Phil Dawson is awesome.
Phil Dawesome
Dawson is second in all time scoring for CLE behind Groza with 60 less games. Diff is that Groza has 473 more XP. Groza averaged over 3 XP a game and almost a FG (24 team pts). Dawson averages 1.6 xp a game and 1.4 FG a game (~15 pts team pts per game).
They had better already have the letters made and painted for his spot in the ring of honor.
I came up with a nickname for Phil Dawson a long time ago and i think it is time to share it with the world… Phil ” Fine Wine” Dawson: he only gets better with age. Also i like to spell ‘fine” as “phine” just to give it that little extra PD flare. Spread the word

When the Dawson scores, we say we got a “PD” instead of a “TD”. Mostly because we never score actual “TDs” so “PD” sounds a little extra special than a “FG”
just have the ceremony before the home game vs. Pitt and be done with it. he’s earned it no matter what happens from here.
someone needs to show this to Bill Barwell at Grantland. He HATES the idea of franchising a kicker. In theory, I can understand this, as kickers are wildly inconsistent from year to year. However, this is often due to circumstances outside of their control.
I always felt Phil was an exception to Barnwell’s rule, and his performance thus far this season only reaffirms my belief
Phil Dawson is Mr. Automatic. Heck, he probably could set a new NFL record for longest FG. He could have made all the FG he attempted yesterday in his sleep, and made them despite adverse conditions. Get this man a Pro Bowl and All-Pro already! (before it goes away)
