Weeden on Pace to Break All Club Rookie Passing Marks
October 23, 2012NFL Rumors: Browns considering shutting down Trent Richardson
October 23, 2012In his press conference today from Berea, Browns President Mike Holmgren thanked the Lerner family for the opportunity, and when asked directly, commented that he had not been offered a credible position by Jimmy Haslam or Joe Banner.
“Quite honestly it hasn’t been talked about.”
He also said he understood why not.
Holmgren said his biggest disappointment was that “they didn’t win more games.” The fans echo that sentiment.
He offered a glowing endorsement of Tom Heckert and (in my opinion) a slightly less glowing endorsement of Pat Shurmur-
“Jimmy knows what I feel about them. I don’t think you can get a better general manager than Tom Heckert. Pat is a bright young coach who had to go through some stuff that you normally don’t have to. I believe in him.”

What stuff has Shurmur had to go through, Mike? OHHHH… you mean, he’s had to go through not being able to manage the clock? He’s had to go through not being able to figure out when to call time outs? He’s had to go through terrible play calling? He’s had to go through not having a clue when to go for it on 4th and 1? I could go on and on and on about what Pat has had to go through. Only problem is that it’s almost ALL self-inflicted. I hope he doesn’t make it past next week. I think you keep Jauron, but that’s it.
“Hello, is this Bill Cowher? Hi, Bill. Jimmy Haslem here. Bill, how much should I write the check for? Ok, great. See you in the morning.” That’s about how I expect the conversation to go.
Cowher ain’t walking through that door
Gruden ain’t walking through that door
Dungy ain’t walking through that door
Saban ain’t walking through that door
This x1000
Not sure they are what we need anyhow
Holmgren will end up coaching the Browns
Shurmers had a shortened pre-season due to the lockout. Don’t you know how long it takes to recover from that. It’s like the half life of Uranium 238 or something. Also, no re-treads who have been softened by years in the broadcast booth. Although, I suppose it worked out for Dick Vermeil.
I don’t want to hire someone else’s something or other. I want to find the who is right for the job. Not one who has the right family connections, or one who worked for the right guy in the past. I want them to go find the candidate who is most enthusiastic about the task at hand. One who understands that things are rarely, if ever, perfect, and knows he must adapt his philosophy to the talent he has on hand. I want a coach who is able to manage the clock at the end of games, and who is able to get his players to not cost themselves yardage with self inflicted wounds such as delay of game, illegal substitution, illegal formation, false starts, etc. I want a coach who knows that you have to do the little things perfectly before you can hope to have sustained success achieving your larger goals.
I don’t know who that is, but I’m certainly hoping they will go through an extensive interview process to find someone like that. The worst possible scenario would be them throwing bags of cash at a big name, simply because they were successful before they started another career as a broadcaster
Can’t imagine why he wasn’t offered a job… oh yeah, probably all the losing etc.
Holmgren is walking out that door
I hope you are wrong just so I can remind you with every post you make on every subject on this web site. Good God already.
I’d hate to see how bad Shurmur would have been had he had more time! 😉
So he posts in every thread and you post in every thread taking note of that fact… Good God already indeed
That was a subtle jab kind of an inside joke but thanks for putting in your one cent I juuuuust love your opinion!
