Cleveland head coach Pat Shurmur said today that the Browns intend to put LB Scott Fujita on the injured reserve list, effective ending his season.
Fujita his been limited with a neck injury that some (Pro Football Talk) have reported as career threatening. Shurmur commented when asked about the potential of Fujita retiring-
“I think retirement decisions, those are personal, whether it’s coaches, players. I think those are discussions you have with your loved ones, about is it time? For a player at times, that decision is made for you. If you’re no longer on a roster and you don’t get picked up, eventually it kind of sets in. I think we all want to be in control of our own situations. I think that’s fair to say. I think it’s fair to say that most of us aren’t. I think that’s the reality of it. To me, uncertainty in the world, tells me that, Hey, we’re moving along.”

Shurmur also said that RB Trent Richardson will practice and could play Sunday against the Chargers-
“(On if Trent Richardson participated in the walk-through)- He did, yeah.
(On if it would have been wiser to have Richardson sit last week)- No, we wanted him to compete and he competed in there for about a half. I was watching him every step of the way and I don’t think it was wise to keep himself out. He didn’t re-injure himself. Had he re-injured himself or set himself back then I would have had second thoughts, but that wasn’t the case.
(On if there is value in resting Richardson until after the bye)- I think what’s important is if he’s healthy to play, he plays. If they tell me he is at no risk to hurt if further then we’re playing ball. As I watch him in practice, just like we watched him in the game, if we feel like that’s something that we can and should do we’ll do it otherwise we’re getting ready to play.”

I just hope they are overly conservative regarding Richardson’s injury. RB’s career spans are too short as it is. We are in no position to make the playoffs so unnecessary hits if he is still injured is just plan foolish. If we had playoff potential, maybe – with the players permission you take the risk….
A guy like Richardson won’t sit out if he has the choice… If he says he is good to go you can’t put your full faith in that. He is a winner, winners always want to be on the field until they have to be carted off….
T-Rich has been stopping when he gets close to contact since he got hurt. He is not breaking tackles, and he is not making tons of cuts, plus they are running him up the middle with more of a chance of a second hit. Sit him.

How bout we give the guy time to heal instead of worrying about ‘Well, he can’t hurt it further’. Sheesh.
Not sure why they didn’t employ a RB by committe approach after Hardesty’s performance versus the Bengals… Mix it up a bit, they can both run effectively when healthy and fresh… and throw in Obby to mix it up..
