Allowing Myself To Think (Some) Good Thoughts About The Browns

August 19, 2012According to Fox 8 Cleveland’s John Telich, following up his report of Alonzo Gee and the Cavaliers reaching a deal on a long-term contract, the Cavaliers may be looking to come to a buyout agreement with small forward Omri Casspi.
Source: #Cavs likely to buy out Omri Casspi from contract. Hearing this may be a mutual desire.

Casspi, 24, was acquired along with a conditional first-round draft pick for J.J. Hickson before last season prior to the NBA lockout. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds on 40.3% shooting (31.5% three-point shooting) in 65 games (35 starts). With Gee and newly signed C.J. Miles on the roster, Casspi’s playing time would have likely been severely cut.

Haha to all of you who thought Miles would replace Gee turns out it was probably Casspi so there! I’m all for it and while they are at it buy out Gibson and jettison him already!
In my opinion, Casspi’s play was atrocious last year. Even with Anthony Parker’s retirement, the addition of Miles and Waiters along with the return of Gee probably spells the end of any meaningful minutes for Casspi.

Ahhh, things are making a lot more sense now… was thinking we had one too many small forwards when they brought CJ Miles in.
To all the Casspi-Gibson haters: if true then the Cavs better hope Azubuike healthy cause someone needs to space floor with outside shots.
I hear what you’re saying, but we won’t really lose that aspect by getting rid of Casspi. Omri has been better than CJ, but hasn’t really been a great 3-point shooter so far in his career. I do agree that we could really use a 3-pointer shooter to put at either SF or PF though.
I know JJ Hickson is awful and I obviously know the whole JJ-Amare trade was never anything, but the Omri trade is looking awful on Chris Grants resume. We will probably never see that draft pick from Sacramento until it is a 2nd rounder. We all know JJ Hickson is god awful, but at one point in time there was a relatively decent market for him, but we couldnt capitalize.
Even Sac will pick somewhere out of the top ten in the next 4 years. If both players get cut, Grant basically just stole a first rounder. He straight up fleeced them
Boobie’s lack of guaranteed money could make him a trade chip come deadline time
Well I guess I could live with Gibson for that much longer I mean he’ll probably stub his toe or something and miss a couple months anyways so if the Cavaliers could move him for anything then count me in!
I’m 100% with you that he isn’t doing much for the team except taking up a roster spot and cap number. However it happens, I don’t expect him to be around after this year.
?? his contract “vests” sometime before the season starts. so, his contract becomes guaranteed then (not sure the date).
the value in the non-guarantee is trading him now.
But, if they do pick up the contract he is in his last year right? So even then it is a 5 mil expiring. Put that together with Walton and thats a lot of cap relief for a team
yeah, we are not a deep team. true on the expiring. the good thing about keeping Gibson and having Walton too is that we have wiggle room (+ the cap) to really create any type of deal that we might want w/ matching contracts.
100% agree, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t catch me in my third mix up in like 4 days lol 🙂
Casspi was definitely better at Sac with 37% average then he showed here. He definitely looks better on paper than in play. Maybe Leuer can be the stretch 4 ala Frye. Overall, I like the fact we have four young athletic wings locked up for at least two years with Zeller who can pick and POP and Andy and TT to crash down low. I maintain, in agreement with you, we need a John Jenkins, Delfino type to keep the floor honest for the slash and dash style of our athletically superior wings. Hopefully, somebody will come available as the attrition of the camps take their toll.
Agreed… that guy was supposed to be Boobie Gibson, but he just can’t stay healthy. Ideally I’d love to have a “3 and D” guy to play at SG with the starters, then have Waiters as the de-facto ballhandler with the second unit and put him with the starters to close the game.
