Id say we are pretty close to screwed at LB! đ
My exact thoughts when looking at it. When you say to yourself, well maybe Maiava will “figure things out” this year, and perhaps rookies Johnson and Acho can have an impact….then things don’t look very good. No question this will be our biggest need in the draft in April. We may even go LB-CB-LB first three rounds…
Marcus Benard listed at third on the depth chart? That’s kind of surprising, even if he is working his way back. Thought he’d play a more prominent role this year.
Looking at some mocks that are out there….it’s hard to tell who will be out there at 32 when we are on the clock….
One name that would be a lot of fun….Mathieu…..the Honey Badger.
He and Haden? Nice.
And yeah….I’m talking Browns Draft on August 7th.
My, my.. The offense doesn’t look totally inept. Amazing.
Also I like the move of William Green to LDE, Now I can dust off the ol #31 jersey.
Honey badger is all hype, no thanks.
Also how in God’s name does Sheldon Brown have a starting job in the NFL still.
Evan Moore as the 4th TE?
and a safety
considering Moore’s poor play to end last season, think of it more as Cameron is looking good and took the “can catch but can’t block” spot away from him.
corner, safety, punt returner and the real deal.
well, Fujita is out week1-3, so I’m thinking Acho isn’t ready to start and we want JMJ at SOLB for those games. This sets that up perfectly.
Hopefully, JMJ solidifies his starting spot in those games and then we can figure out what to do when Fujita comes back (keeping a place on the bench warm is a good idea for him if you ask me)
At least we are 4-3 these days when we say that……
looks like we will see how well Heckert has drafted, a lot of those guys starting,
Schwartz better be good. Not serviceable, good.
starters not drafted or signed by Heckert (counting 26 spots including STs):
O: Thomas, Mack, MoMass
D: Rubin, Maiava
ST: Dawson, Cribbs
7 out of 26 spots remain after just 3 offseasons. This is the team that Heckert built now without question.
Yeah…that one jumped at me for sure as well. How do you give a guy an extention last year to make him your 4th string this year?
Other than linebacker and the d-line, which honestly prolly look so bad cuz of injuries mostly, I’m pretty impressed. Where did we randomly end up with depth at receiver? Never thought I’d see the day Cribbs would be the 5th option. And I’m not worried about Sheldon Brown. If he struggles, Patterson is more than capable of taking his place, Skrine and Wade are both great prospects as well. Obviously not every position is going to be perfect and there’s always gonna be holes somewhere, but this team looks really solid and should be pretty competitive.
Key there to note I think is Hodges. Hope he can bring some stability to position the Browns will need.
I love your optimism! If we actually pick at #32, nobody will care if we draft JoeDave Schmidlap, placeholder from Southwest Idaho Tech. We’ll all still be hungover from the Super Bowl party and victory parade. Not to mention, the world will have likely already ended, what with the frozen pigs that will be flying out of Hell by then.
He’s been injured for much of camp. I’m sure that also has something to do with it.
Excited to see Brandon Jackson in action…
I always thought when we won, that the first to fly would be Rapelisburger.
Love the comment. If Gocong and Taylor weren’t hurt, this roster looks pretty darn good. Taylor will be back eventually, and perhaps JMJ turns into something….if so, we have a pretty nice foundation to move forward. 2-3 years of competitive football and adding more draft pieces, and Bingo….we could find ourselves as the class of our division…and maybe even our conference.
And depending on Norwood, who looked great in the final games last year….Cribbs could be the 6th option.
If I have another son, I don’t see any way I can avoid naming him “JoeDave”.
This is my single biggest wish in this year’s offense.
….er, I mean that Weeden is not the second coming of DA or that Trent does not go down with turf toe/staph infection/achilles injury or that Little and Gordon or more than just physical freaks or that we finally solved the turnstyle that is the right side of the line…
Yikes, my wish list is big.
But is he a real badger? Inquiring minds want to know.
I hate it when they trade down with the patriots… we need to use our high draft picks
Agreed. Linebacker D-line are prolly the weakest spots and we have 2 rookies drafted for each. Hughes may have been a reach but apparently if he’s listed first on the depth chart he must be close to what they were hoping for. Winn was a quality pick that deep in the draft. Also, JMJ and Acho were both great value picks and either one has a fairly decent chance of becoming a starter in the league.
